first day of ownership, first problem!

Featured Replies

hey guys, just signed up due to a wee problem...

was driving on dual carriageway today and the temp gauge went aboce half way, and after 5 minutes of that i heard and felt a kind of bubbling noise from the footwell kind of area. any ideas what could be up? oil and coolant levels are fine, that was the first thing i checked because i had endless overheating problems with my last car, a rover 200. This one i have now is a 1998 felicia 1.3

cheers

steve

The temp guage should run at about the half way possition all the time , it is possible thet the thermostat has stuck, so i would get a new one . I would also get a new temperature sender as faulty ones can cause all sorts of running problems

they can be bought from Jorily on ebay

Best thing to do is check thermostat first by running up to temprenture then feeling the top hose to check it is hot, if not thermostat is sticking. If all is well then feel the radiator which should be hot all over although slightly cooler towards the bottom.

If all is well put heater on full heat and keep engine running to make sure there are no airlocks.

I agree with rigsby that it does sound like a sticking thermostat.

:+1:

Unless there's a "hot antifreeze" smell, when it might be the heater matrix leaking?
