Jacking Points

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Can someone please tell me where the jacking points are on an Octy? I have jacked my car with a scissor jack at the thick part of the seam running under the side of the car(the sill?) assuming that this was logical. However the paint is now cracked and flaking of at these points. Have I been stupid?

Apologies for my n00bness!

I have RTFM by the way and it suggests where I think I am doing it, but the messed up paint concerns me.

If you look on the sill (above the bottom seam) you will see an arrow stamped into the metal. There is one towards the front, and one towards the rear. The scissor jack should be used on the seam in line with these arrows.

When using a trolley jack, I would suggest finding alternative jacking points (I use the sub frame mounts) as you're likely to fold the seams over otherwise.

Thanks Phil.

What about the flaky paint. Should I be worried? I've just spotted some more flaking further along the seam well away from the jacking points too.

Hmm, I'm not sure why that's happened. I wouldn't worry too much about rust as the Octavia is galvanised. If it's not too obvious then I would be inclined to do a DIY touch-up job to try and prevent it from getting worse.

If rust isn't likely to be a problem then I will do just that. Thanks very much for the info.

I had some muppet damage the sills on my Octi estate, when he jacked it up with a bottle jack, when he was changing the tyres for me.

He did use the jacking points, but the lip on the jack (From a 7.5 tonner, I believe) was too high, and crushed the sills.

Cost the owner of the company (small independant place) about 1k to have the sills sorted for me.

Ouch!

I did use a different jack than the Skoda one first time, but the lip depth was fine. The sills themself are ok(I hope!)
