tyres 225/45/r17 91w

Featured Replies

Im in need of a pair of tyres soon for my 2.0 octy sport. im not looking for tyres for racing, just a set of tyres that are quieter than the czech/polish ones i currently have on, that will last a bit longer than the 14k these are on and are not priced over the top.

Michelin premacys are some ive been recommended, ive been told to avoid goodyear as my fueleconomy will go down with them. also bridgestones. ive tried to look for other brands on my local tyre sites but they dont have them in stock and im not into order and take them in to be fitted, rather just turn up and get them fitted.

looking for advice really or what you lot would recommend for the above, everyday use.

You're lucky to have 14k!

I had 6k out of a set of Avon ZZ3's on my Fabia :(

i dont tend to drive around like a boy racer, especially with the fuel at the price it is, plus not much chance around here with all the traps and traffic.

just realised my tyres are bridgestone which came with the car but some foriegn name on the otherend to where bridgestone are.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta are an excellent tyre although not the quietest.

If you fancy Michelins, expensive but they give fantastic miles, then I'd suggest Pilot Exalto 2s as opposed to Primacys. From experience of both the Exaltos 2s are better in all respects, particularly they give a better and quieter ride than Primacys.

I have a set of Exalto 2s on my vRS, which driven very briskly, looks like giving me 18,000 miles out of the fronts and more from the rears. Having said that they are about £150 per tyre (225/40 18) whereas my Ultrac Sessantas look like giving only 12,000 miles BUT they only cost £100; ....

.....so on a miles per £ basis they are equal; and I rate the wet grip better on the Ultracs but the Exalto 2s are a touch quieter. you choose.

Make sense?

My vote's for the Michelins too. Have the 205/60 R15's on mine for 30k now and they still have some life left, I suppose under 10k but I'm more than satisfied.

Performance is good both dry and wet and they're almost quiet.

cheers guys, was recommended to get the bridgestones that are currently on the vehicle (and £20 cheaper than michilens) as the noise has only become noticable since they got nearer the min tread.

..... as the noise has only become noticeable since they got nearer the min tread.

This happens with all tyres as they were down and there is less thickness of (noise absorbing) rubber.

You'll notice that your new tyres will be quieter and give a more comfortable ride.

Good luck.

Hi, I am using Firestone Z200 at the moment and am very pleased with them, they are a Bridgestone brand but are in a price bracket below. (225/45/17).

Falken FK452s are well recommended and as are the Vredestein Ultracs Sessantas

Falkens FK452: 67.80 each

Vredestein US: 86.00 each

its trying to find a garage that do them :(

Camskill tyres online are doing falken 452's in 18's for £60 delivered to your door, so 17's might be even cheaper. Just take them to any garage and for £20-40 have them fitted. I nearly had the falkens for my new alloys,as i had them on my last car, but thought i would try Avon ZZ3's this time, although babs comments about them do have me concerned now. Have heard lots of good comments too, so i will just have to see

Just order them online and get a local garage to do it. We did this with Liz's car and saved around £40 over the price of getting them done at a garage. Cost me much more to get a garage to supply the Vredesteins and fit (Car Clinic Chichester) due to time constraints.

i popped into my local tyre place who i know well and have ordered the falken 452's which wont arrive till friday as their is a short supply of them at moment. he thinks they are good (always says if the tyres are crap) and has quoted 188 for a pair, tracking, balancing and disposal of the old so i feel i have a good deal here. the quote for the bridgestones which are already on there came to nearly 240 for the pair, but looking at the leaflet on the falkens and the tread etc i think they are a better pair.

Not a bad deal as it includes tracking which is something between £25 and £30 so works out at £13 per corner which isn't bad (been told tyre disposal is £2 a corner)

the local small tyre place that will do the tyres are the only ones i trust with brakes etc and i know i wont get ripped off by them either (spent many many hours in there with my previous cars).

I'm on my second set of Pirelli Pzero assymetrico 225 45 17's and they have been excellent on my Mk2 Octy 1.9TDi. They are quiet, superb in terms of both wet and dry grip and wear very well. They do seem to be quite expensive but well worth it in my opinion

had them fitted yesterday, certainly quieter to what my previous tyres were starting to get like. grip seems good. one question when you get new tyres ive noticed this before, but brakes dont feel as good is this right?

Probably becuase the tyres needing bedding in and so won't have their full grip yet

swmbo said similar, never had that before. will be pumping the brakes later (with the help of swmbos foot) just to make sure their isnt any air in the system too.

If you didn't open the bleeding nipples and the brake fluid reservoir is >min there's nowhere to suck air from in normal operation.

What's probably the matter is these newer tires all have carnauba wax in the composition, and there's more added to the outside to prevent them drying out in the warehouse. Take the first 300 miles easy.

i pumped the brakes last night after i got home with the brake reseviour not undone. today it does fill abit better, certainly seems to be biting better anyway.

New tyres have a coating of "mould-release compound" which is slippery to aid in what it's name suggests. Shouldn't make any difference to the feel of your brakes unless you are tromping hard on the brake pedal (enough to make the tyres lose grip).

It is usually a good idea to take it easy for the first 100 miles or so on new tyres, particularly if the roads are wet.

How are you finding the ZZ3's damo? I've just bought a pair myself.

Cheers,

well thought i would bring up this thread again to say im not to happy with the wear of the tyres. seem to be wearing away rather quickly to the bridgestones and the car isnt driven hard, in fact the opposite. anyone else with falkins 452 noticed this?
