brakes

anyone else noticed this on their octy? ive noticed on a brake pad check yesterday that my back ones are more worn than the front, yet they are also allwearing at an angle so what pad is left is starting to look like a triangle kind of shape and this is on every pad.???

Nope when I changed mine for 312's they were worn true with the obvious chamfer on the front and rear edges.

Rears are wearing at a similar rate to the front too.

Yes.My rear pads are wearing much more quickly than the front ones. This is considered to be normal in the vRS.

Yep rears do tend to wear out quicker on the A5 chassis, much thinner pad to start with.

but are they wearing at the same rate across the pad?

As per my previous post, mine are flat over the whole pads apart from the chamfer.

My regular Octi2 ate the front ones much quicker than the rear, but I replaced all four of them since I got better performance ones.

20k miles later I have about 35% left on the front, 45% rear, mostly spirited town driving. I do engine brake a lot, so ymmv.

how long have the standard pads lasted most of you? i got the service in 5k miles so im thinking of waiting till then and get them done then, but if they dont last that long im happy enough to do them myself.

Well I think I had 30k on them and there was over 50% left on the pads.

I changed the factory ones at 40-60% wear at <20k miles for no real reason, I just wanted to.

If your pads are not currently making a metal on metal sound, and the indicator is not on you can definitely keep them for 5k more.

If you have alloys it's easy to check, just move the car forward a few inches at a time until you can see the calliper through the spokes and look at them with a flashlight.

If the tapered edge is still visible they have some life left.

Do be aware that the inner pad will wear quicker than the outer pad due to the calliper pressing on the inside not the outside face of the disc.
