Door trim

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I am trying to upgrade my front door speakers on my vRS. I know you dont need to remove the door trim but I want to rewire the doors using some decent wiring that will eventually be connected to an Amp in the boot.

I know there is a post kicking around somewhere, explaining how to do this but I cant find the damn thing. Ive removed the screws around the outside of the door ( drivers side) and the one near the mirror controls, I just need to know how to get the door handle and control unit off. I've tried prising it off but I think it will break if I go to far, feels too solid to be clipped on.

Pics would be great to if anyone has any

Thanks Guys

James

Thanks for that, I had a look on vwvortex.com and found info on pulling the door apart for a Bora, bit more detailed.

If anyone wants the link, let me know

That sort of info is always useful to members.. Could you please cut and paste the link into a post if you don't know how to turn it into a true hyperlink.

Its got loads of pics and a good descripton. Its about installing one of the AlienTech doofers in a Bora, but removal of the door handle looks to be same , havent had a chance to try it yet. When I do, I'll post a link to some pics and a description.

Just to let you guys know,

Got the door trim off today. Quite simple really but a real tough bugger! Does that make sense???

Its a simple job (brain power wise) but does require a bit of welly to shift it. Needless to say it was in vain.

I wanted to take a peek behind the door skin cos the speakers I have will not quite fit, Magnets too big (Infinity Reference 655cs) and catches on part of the door behind the skin. Its a real pain in the arse and doesn't seem that well thought out. I'll have to buy some of those other infinity's your all raving about and bung these on the Parcel shelf instead, or create a custom door pod for these.

Incidentally has anyone got experience of doing this and has anyone got a clue how to remove the passenger door trim????

The passanger side, P/S is similiar to take off as the drivers side, D/S. The P/S plastic handle splits in 2 to reveal the 2 philips heads screws (the same as used in the D/S). You need to try any pop off either end of the handle, try using a flat head screw driver.

This info will be useful when I come to fit my replacement wing mirror cowl (original has been smashed to smithereens by oncoming car etc etc.). Originally I thought that the entire mirror assembly (
