New Octavia test drive

Featured Replies

Had a couple of days off work so I booked a test drive in the new Octy, a 105 bhp TDi PD in Ambient trim. Was generally very impressed by the car but had a couple of niggles. The line of the front pillars seems more intrusive than in the old model and both me and the missus found the cabin rather claustrophobic because of the ridge along the centre of the roof line. However the car seemed much classier than the old car and I am seriously thinking of trading the vRS for a 140bhp Tdi PD in Elegance trim. Told I would have quite a wait for it however, but the 105 just is not lively enough.

What sort of wait are they talking about?

The dealer mentioned October.

i had one on order 1.9TDI Elegance in stone grey, aug build date delivery end of aug. Decided in end to have another furby VRs, so next week we become a two vrs family, adding a black one with heated seats and third rear head rest, to the standard silver one we,ve had since sept.

How much did you pay for the Furby?? if you dont mind saying that is?

Also where did you get it from..?

Don't you think the New Octavia almost make the Superb seem redundant?

the rear leg room is no where near as long but it is good enough, and the boot space is far bigger and more accessable.. Also the new Octy drives so much better than the Passat/Superb barge...

Side by side the new Octavia looks far bigger than the 'old' Octavia...

I have never been convinced of the need of two family sized Skodas, a medium size one to rival Golfs etc would seem to make more sense to me. Strangely though the Octy 2 was roomier inside I think it looks smaller on the outside and feels smaller inside. The looks smaller is because of the more bulbous bonnet tends to make the front look shorter than on the old car and the bulkier internal trim is more claustrobhobic than the brighter simpler Octy 1 cabin. However the rear room is certainly very noticibly bigger, especially over my wifes pre-facelift Octy 1.6LX.

The Octy II side by side with a Octy I looks bigger.. The interior has a more

class and the materials used are far better than the cheap plastic used on the Octy I..

The dash design is more Audi as well, with clear classy instruments ( Allways though Octy I was cheap looking.. )

I personally think the new car is ahead in terms of quality, price and space etc for the equiv Golf.. VW has cut corners with the interior trim of the Golf

but Skoda are doing this far cheaper, in a bigger car..

The 1.9TDI engine seemed quite intrustive though when cold...

I need to see a Octy II in a decent colour as green and blue don't do it justice..

I could not compare the Octy2 directly with an Octy 1 as the car it was parked beside was an estate and was the other way around, but I have to say even the sales person agreed that the new shape of bonnet gives the impression of the car being shorter even though it is actually longer. I agree fully that the new cabin is classier, it certainly no longer looks like a budget car. It is however more claustrophobic, mainly because of the ridge in the roof lining. Perhaps for someone shorter than me this is not quite so intrusive. Despite this I love the new car, and am giving serious consideration to trading the fun but not overly practical vRS for the high spec but still powerful 140 bhp TDI Octy2.

Strangely green was also the colour of Octy2 my dealer had in stock.
