My new satnav

Featured Replies

About a week ago my trusty TomTom Go died on me, so I thought I'd get the proper MFD car kit. After a bit of digging for info (thanks VRStu) and a bit of patience with the postal system I turned up on Lummox's doorstep last night with a big box of bits.

For about a quarter of what I'd been quoted by the one dealership that wanted to do the job, Ross fitted my new toy and tested it all. He wasn't even phased by the fact that I'd neglected to mention I had a bluetooth kit fitted already, but it did mean he had to finesse the unit back into the dash because of the huge bundle of wires. I'm definitely glad I got a professional to fit it as it is as simple as everyone says, except they usually neglect to mention the fact that the plug'n'play lead has a switch that has to be installed in the glovebox (so that had to come out), and then there were some parameters that needed to be checked to make sure the unit didn't still think it was in a Superb with huge wheels so I would have arrived everywhere ahead of schedule! On the screen, at least.

Cheers Lummox! It's brilliant.

Does anyone know how to stop the nice lady shouting at me? I've turned her right down in the volume settings menu, but she's still REALLY loud! Any help turning her down a bit would be lovely. I can only image her getting into a shouting match with SWMBO:eek:

Looks good, so how much did it set you back in the end???

looks really nice mate

Hi Walt, glad your happy.

I'm guessing you have turned the nav volume down in the menus, try turning the Gala volume down also. Last ditch effort, hit the red switch ;)

Almost £400 including the new UK & Ireland disc as the one supplied by the ebay bandit I bought it from wasn't the '07-'08 disc he claimed it was - more like 2002 actually.

It is a lot more expensive than the equivalent TomTom, but it's so much less hassle, and the big display is great for the radio and CD.

I definitely want the right TMC controller and FIS upgrade but that would be almost as much again to buy new, and I'm not sure I want it that much;) So I'll wait until the right bits come up on the 'bay.

I tried that last night. It didn't effect the volume, but my car does now have almost 200bhp at the flywheel:D

I can probaby source you a nav disc Walt, i'll have a word.

Very nice looking piece of kit....

It's OK thanks - I've bought a new genuine one from KTD. I'll know where to ask first next time though;)

Any pics of it up and running???

Looking good

In the process of fitting mine, had it since march!

My car didn't have a cd changer though and the fitting kit for it was discontinued!

I had it on order only to be told 6 weeks later that it was now dicontinued.

So I have had to cut the cubby box under the seat in order to accomodate the changer.

Hope to get it all in by the weekend.

Having problems with my nav disc too. Its 07/08 but the unit doesnt seem to read it!

I've posted in your wanted thread - if you want to try my disc in your system, I'm in Campbell Park (home) or Blakelands Ind. Estate (work).

I've put it away for the night now, but I'll take some tomorrow en route to work.

Once I get the system fitted in, i'll give you a PM

Much appreciated. Thanks.

First, turn her down when she's talking, it took me ages to work out it's separate from the radio volume !

Second, there is a minimum nav volume setting in the "volume settings" below which it won't go .... see pic

I knew about the second one - I have it set at minimum now, but I will try turning her down when she's talking. Ta!

I bought a new 07/08 CD as well after the original copied (illegal) one turned out to be pretty flaky.

Got it from ebay for £40 but at least it's genuine & original.

After I realised that you can't play CD's in the CD slot I also bought an aux adapter to play my MP3 player through rather than bother with a CD changer.

Luckily your expert installer was already expecting that little curve ball ;)

It's not a black disk is it??

Should it be ? This one is blue & silver, definitely pressed rather than burned

Indeed:D - but incredibly what it does is apparently still a mystery - even to the likes of yourself and Lummox apparently.

AFAIK it interrupts the GALA pulse so you can watch videos while you're rolling ....

I saw one the other day from eBay that was black, not burned but clearly a moody copy, albeit a very good one.

Correct, it does switch the Gala.

I would love one of these units, but would worry all the time about it disappearing.

That's the map in day mode

SNPointerDaysm.jpg

That's the pointer mode to confirm the verbal directions

SNRadioDaysm.jpg

And the radio controls in the daytime mode

SNRadioNightsm.jpg

And in night mode, which comes on automatically with the headlamps.

It's very good now the postcode mapping works. I reckon anyone having any trouble with one of these should check the CD first as an iffy disc definitely seems to make it troublesome.
