Featured Replies

I have some valve caps on my skoda which are chrome / stainless steel with a skoda badge on the top but they are nearly black and need a good clean, any suggestions for cleaning them up good and proper? Cheers

Bin them and get some normal black ones.

Will save you a whole lot of hassle when the tat chrome ones seize on and you cant get them off.

There not plastic they are metal and very thick i cant see that they would seize up but thanks for your quick reply! maybe someone will steal them so i might have to get some black ones one day!

Hmm cant see why they would seize up?

Metal cap, metal tyre valve????

Just a wise word of warning thats all from someone who has check a lot of tyre pressures.

LUMMOX IS RIGHT BIN THEM THEY WILL SEIZE,MINE HAVE

Ive got stainless ones. Dont seize

Ive got stainless ones. Dont seize

Depends on the grade af stainless.....

The valve isnt stainless though

Lummox is so right - They will seize. Get rid of them before your getting new valves fitted.

If a load of people on here telling you from experiance that they will seize isn't enough to sway you then do a Google on Galvanic Corrosion which will turn up the science behind it.

Copper grease will help but not completley remove the risk. It also won't help the fact you have adorned your vehicle with junk accesories.

I put some grease on swmbo's shiny valve caps (yes they're pink). So far have had no problems at all. Have always come off easily.

metal "ch@v" valve caps , the bain of mechanics

had them seize on a bike and a motor bike black plastic is the way foword

Checked mine this afternoon,no corrosion and they are about 10 years old and have been on my last 3 cars

Likewise, my metal caps (Richbrook) have been on my last two cars and are still fine and dandy on the Fabia, no sign of locking on.

Copperslip is your friend :-)

Hi Mate,

I have richmond anti theft ones on mine and have not seized at all, if to clean them I would just soapy water when your washing the car I think should bring them up a treat.

I bought green ones (my car is green)..

one sized..before a motorway trip... bu66er! I couldn't shift it, waited a week cuz car went to garage! Mechanic got it off.

Remove them! Mine all came off that day (sept the stuck one) ;-)

I liked mine but wasn't worth the potential hassle.

I have the Richbrook anti-theft ones on mine. The kids round ours collect valve caps, so it's either those or no valve caps at all!

Mine did on the lupo 4x new valves required :(

Black plastic valve caps are about £1.49 for 5 from Halfrauds.

Need I say anymore...

5 for 25p from your local motor factors. Why people keep giving Halfords money I'll never know. If you asked in a local tyre fitting place they'd probably give you a handful for free.

I hardly think £1.49 is akin to giving my entire life savings away! :P

I wouldn't say 'bad posts', just friendly words of caution :)
