Air Intake sensor Cleaning

Featured Replies

Can some body give me some guidance please.

My VRS have a slightly rough idle for the first 30 seconds after start up from cold it not that serious but its there.

I have done some searching and found that it may well be the AIT sensor that needs a clean. This is easy to get at and shouldn't take very long however can I simply unclip it and then just take it out for a good clean with IPA. And also then will it need to be reset via VAGcom or simply just reconnected.

Many Thanks Chris

I need to know where this is also, if you find out could you gimme a shout! cheers

Thanks for the info about the MAF, I will try this as soon as possible.

It was however the Air Intake Temperature sensor that I was going to clean/replace, the one that sits near the throttle body. I can get it out and clean it OK. I was wondering this or the MAF will spring a fault that needs to be reset with VAGCOM once it is uncliped or with they both be fine once the engine is started again?

Cheers Chris

Got a picture of your AIT sensor please?

Sorry mate as you can see I don't know my AIT from my MAF :o

perhaps it's best if I just leave the techstuff to the techs eh................

how much is a new maf sensor?

About £70 iirc on exchange I think

im sure someone said a while back it was cheap as chips and easier to replace than clean.... maybe i was wrong.

Cleaning only prolongs it's death iirc.

And once it's dead no amount of cleaning will resurect it

Many thanks for all your inputs.

However all I rally need to know is when I disconnect either the MAF or AIT to clean will I trigger and error code and then need to get VAGCOM to clear it.Or will it be a case of simply reconnecting the offending parts and away I go ??

Many thanks Chris

As long as the ignition is off you will be fine.

Still interested in where you IAT sensor is buddy.

I cleaned it up last night and it feels a bit smother, but the acid test will be when I start it form cold. Its quite a simple procedure it only requires a 5mm allen key and some electrical cleaner.

I have highlighted the AIT in the picture.

Thanks Chris, it helps a lot should the same question get asked again.
