Fabia fault code?

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me at all. I've had my EPC light on the engine and I've finally got the VAG-COM to work.

It says EGR range exceed, can anyone tell me what this means? On a fabia vRS

Thanks

I've had this before, when the turbo-to-EGR pipe snapped, when I blanked if off when fitting the Allard EGR bypass pipe. That pipe is now removed completely and the blanking plate fitted directly to the turbo :)

It could point to a boost leak of some kind, if your car is standard? Are you getting any more smoke out of the back, or a noticeable lack of power and/or response from the turbo on boost?

I would reset the code relating to this in the 01 Engine section, and see if it reappears. It could just have been hit with a rogue reading. My EPC light is on all the time because I've bypassed the EGR. So to give you an idea, if I reset mine with VAG-COM it comes on again after about 10 miles.

Thanks alot Steve  My car is re-mapped by jabba and has been for some 60K +

I've cleared the code and I will see if it comes up again. Not noticed any extra smoke out the back but I've been thinking for a while that its not as quick as it used to be, but then it might be that I'm just too used to the car.

See how it goes on a test drive later.

Thanks alot

No probs - I'd also try listening out for any extra turbo whistle, or general 'air noise'. In hindsight, I could hear the extra air noise quite clearly, before the pipe eventually gave up (happened at motorway speed).

Could be worth physically checking the condition of the EGR valve, and the pipework surrounding it.

Steve

For info, this is the pipe I'm referring to. I could be barking up completely the wrong tree in this case, but I'll give you the info just in case :)

thanks alot steve you have been a great help  I've not had time to take it for a test drive tonight took the chance as its off the road to clean the filter. I will have a look at the EGR pipe and see if that is all ok.

Once again thanks alot :)

right, 200 miles later and the light has come back on.

VAG-COM brings this back

19586 - EGR System Regulation Range Exceeded

P3130 - 35-10 ---- intermitten.

Any ideas at all how to solve this one?

Also the turbo is boosting up way higher thatn normal (boost gauge read off the clock over 2.0bar)

Thanks

Checked the pipe pictured above and it seems ok, cant say I could feel any leaks from it or see an signs of a break. Reset the code again last night, stayed off this morning until I was nearly back home and came on again, same fault as before.

Will this cause any long term damage to the car?

Apart from doing a Google on that 19586 code, I'm out of ideas I'm afraid. It should hopefully pull up some info on other sites though (UKMKIVs, SCN etc)

Good luck

Probally needs new EGR valve they are problamatic and cost around £150 IIRC.

Don,t know if you can clean these out with carb cleaner?

well looking on the web it does seem to come back to the EGR (possible clogging/faulty valve). It is possible to clean them (going from what has been said on TDIClub) but I've not found how to as of yet. I could just go a buy a new one but what is bothers me is what caused it to fail? As I dont fancy forkin out £150 for a new one just for it to fail again.

Mines not a high mileage fabia (76k 04 plate), as there is higher mileage fabias on here that have also been re-mapped.

Only things that have changed is I've had a CDA put on and I'm using Miller 4 Sport after reading so much praise on her about it. But both have been used for 10K miles I would have thought it would have caused an issue before now.

Possible I'm just over worrying about it all.

Thanks again steve for your help and cheers for the info taxi 219

The 'CDA' is a different type of air intake IIRC? Just wondering if that's causing an issue?

This is what I think might be causing it, but saying that there are members on here that do run one, I've not heard any issues so far.

Will do some more searching on the web for extra info and a possible way to test/clean the EGR.

Thanks for your help guys

PM me if your selling the CDA hehe:thumbup:

Another thought after reading threads on here, is it possible that driving too slowly and tryin to get a great MPG for some time its just clogged up the ERG? As most of my driving lately has all returned 64-72mpg.

The two things that are bugging me is the fact I've just strted using Millers 4 Sport and the CDA.

If it's not too much hassle, I'd return to standard induction. As long as you're using the Millers in line with their recommendations, I'd be fairly sure that wasn't at fault.

You're right too, with clogging. If the type of driving you do doesn't allow you to use a decent amount of the rev range, it could start causing problems. After refitting the standard intake, I'd go out for a spirited drive for half an hour.

Steve

Assuming your driving style doesn't cause the egr valve to travel its full range of motion, you could try giving it a bit of exercise by doing a few repeated output tests through VAG Com. This may free it off a little.

Aye Steve thats what I've been thinking, then give it an good drive, and then take it from there.

fordfan - still new to VAGCOM so I will have to read up on how to do the output tests, dont fancy doing anything wrong, but I will give that a go too.

Cheers chaps

If you're using a fairly new version of VAGCOM, Version 7 onwards say, just pop yourself into 01 Engine, and then you should see measuring blocks (down on bottom-left IIRC, not on my laptop at moment). It's all fairly self-explanatory, although there's some very good tutorial stuff on Ross Tech's site if you need it. Check their Wiki too

Steve

Engine 01, output test 03 and you can cycle it through the the various components.

A quickk test for that fault is pull the vacuum pipe off the top of the EGR valve. At idle there should be partial vacuum. If there isn't it could be a faulty vacuum supply or a faulty control solenoid.

cheers ross I will have a go at that too.

Now I've got the brake fault showing too  cars got to love them!
