ugly tow bar.

Featured Replies

have had a detachable tow bar fitted to my 55plate TFSI VRs, and it doesnt look very pretty with the electrics hanging down below bumper line. Has anyone got a neater solution? have moved them into the bumper but will have to cut bigger hole to use twin sockets.

Also whats the petrol vrs like to tow with? im used to towing with a 530d so i am presuming that ill get pushed around a bit.

I beleive that Westfalia do one with swing down 13 pin sockets and detachable bar. Tiny cut under neath the bumper = out of site unless you get on your knees.

is that for the estate or hatchback?

Well, having now checked it's the one on my estate, which is an Elegence. Not cheap, but worth it from the looks

Click Here for the Westfalia Website - The select Product finder and installation instructions from the left had side. Choose Skoda andOctavia II Estate. The choose third option down = detachable with 13 pin. You can also download the PDF instructions.

I've had the Westfalia detachable on my 55 plate Octavia Hatchback for a year now, the 13 pin elecs swing out for use and swing back totally hidden when not in use as described by Tomdeswrig.

Make sure they attach the type approval plate where you can see it. Good luck.

I know this is an old thread now, but perhaps you will pick it up. I had a "Brink" detachable bar fitted to my 08 Octy Elegance Estate in March, with twin electrics, which not only looked crap, but kept catching speed bumps when 4 up or towing, because they hung beneath the bumper. Last Monday I got them to change the twin 7 pins for a single 13 pin to allow it to swing up into the small cutout in the bumper. For 50 quid for the swap,(including the adapter) its great. Looks neat, no more scraping the top off the tarmac, and the connection is a `push and twist` - very positive. I`m well pleased. Hope this is not too late to be of help.

I've got the receiving bit of a hidden towbar kit on my 2004 Octy vRS; but I'm missing the ball bit.

My friendly local towbar place basically told me to "get f*cked" when I asked them for one... well, they actually said "you can't buy the towball on its own" and offered no more help than that.

Anyone know where I can get one without having to buy the whole lot??

Is it a Skoda towbar or some other make?

If you do need to change it then I certainly recommend Westfalia.

Is yours a Skoda one?

I'm pretty sure it's a Skoda one. Why??

I'll keep an eye out. ;)

Might need a favour off of you soon anyway :D

Uh Oh! Sounds ominous...

I don't do "get out of speeding ticket" cards...:rofl:

Seriously though, PM me - I'm back in on Tuesday:thumbup:

VAG Towbars are usually made by Brink, so you might want to try them.
