Fabia vRS - Legendary Car?

Featured Replies

I think it will become a boy racers car as the prices drop......then they will be covered in bat wings and fibreglass body kits etc....

The 306 Dturbo is still popular because for the price and age of car there is not much competition...its a good car that is pokey, cheap to run and handles very well out of the box.

no chance really as there are other cars on teh same platform with the same engine etc as already pointed out an are you lot serious?? a real enthusiasts car etc etc ????

other than on the forum and at meets the only people that drive them in oxford are either pensioners or middle aged women, very very rare to see a young person driving one.

I thought you would like this thread.

And I totally agree on the old grippers, thats all I ever see driving them

A lot more younger drivers are turning to them now as they start to hit the sub-6k barrier.

I just can't see it.

In 25 years time they will not have one on display at Beaulieu. Besides, they will all end up in a ditch or on their roofs before then.

so i'm a negative, fabia hating, satan worshiping wrong'un for saying something like this but when a (ex)fabia owner says it its all kosha

carry on people :)

That would be boring....

In all honesty, the Fabia vRS does what is says on the tin, and that's about it.

Without spending a lot on it, it can be a whole lot better, but it isn't ever going to be a world beater, but as small, cheapish, warm diesel hatches go, there isn't a lot to compare it with at the same price.

The fabia like all hot hatchs will follow the following stages.

When its newish, most people that own them will be normal people with decentish jobs and the old people who got conned into buying one by a dealership sales man. They will be maintained and looked after. Most will stay standard but a few will fall into the hands of enthusiasts (sp) and become tastefully moddified.

Then as they get cheaper, they will fall into the hands of the younger idiots such as myself. A few will then be written off. Some will get more modified and "chaved" with stickers and spoilers.

A few will slip through the net of chavs, these will be the old people that will run the fabia until they sadly pass away.

Then comes the final stage, they will become rare.... prices will start to rise and demand will be greater. The cars that made it through the chav stage will be bought back by the normal people, who used to have one, and now have sentimental feelings towards the fabia vrs.

Thus ends the life cycle of the hot hatch.

It happened to the golf mk1 gti and its now starting to happen with the mk2 golf. the mk3 golf is currently in the chav stage. and the mk4 is in the normal to chav transition.

Same with the nova, how many people have actually seen a chav driving a nova..... its a rare sight nowadays. I saw an absolute mint nova gte the other week and it wasnt owned by a chav. The corsa is in the chav stage, and the new corsa is in the normal to old age stage.

thats how i see it anyway. Just my random thoughts

tbh thats how i feel but honesty seems to get peoples back up...................

Very good

Everyone around me in the 19-22 age category has a Fabia vRS. Theres around 5 or 6 within a small area that i know and i only ever see young owners, due to the cheap insurance around here... :thumbdwn:

It's when it falls into the next category it goes downhill, 17 + 18 year olds

Heres a nice vrs from my local town

I just said it how I see it and to be honest me saying it should make it all the more true :D

I loved mine to bits when I had it but I don't think it would have the same appeal now the product is at this stage of it's useful life. You can tell how it's going by the quality of some of the posts on here;

"Wat u fink of my rimz dog? Dem look sic wit dem alloz vavl capz"

"Will oil 4 a 10er be ok in my VRS?:D:D:rofl::rofl::thumbup::("

It's not unexpected, nor always unwelcome but sometimes it's tiresome watching the same threads go round with ever decreasing standards of english and content. I doubt very much if half the current posters in this forum even know I used to run a VRS...

Back on topic....

In 25 years time we will all look back at say, "yeah the VRS was a nice car, maybe a bit of a trendsetter" We will not look back and say "It's acheived greatness and changed the world" It never has and never will.

The 306 Dturbo is still popular because for the price and age of car there is not much competition...its a good car that is pokey, cheap to run and handles very well out of the box.

I think the 306 D Turbo has more chance of 'Legend Status' as it was the first Diesel car that made people sit up and take note that it was possible to have a diesel that was able to hold it's own in terms of perfromance against it's petrol engined counterparts - if Pug had never introduced it would we have seen the GT TDI Golf (which again came out before the Fabia VRS) ??????

The Fabia VRS is not the first of it's kind, despite what people think.... Good car, yes, warm hatch (in standard form), yes - Cult car, maybe...

So funny Yet so true. :D

Spot on.

I suppose as I still have mine I'm hardly objective about it. Although the new Sirocco (sp?) is making eyes at me...just as soon as they bring out the diesel version :D

I just said it how I see it and to be honest me saying it should make it all the more true :D

T.

Possibly, but the same engine had been found in the 405 since the 80s, and the 80bhp Turbo Diesel 205 and 309 had similar success.

I owned a DTurbo 306 for over 2 years and found it's hyped beyond it's abilities. Everyone always says "It's fast and economical". I found it neither particularly fast (When the mrs' 1.4 Fiesta Ghia is quicker there's a problem..) and not particular economical (Only 40mpg... which again the mrs' 1.4 ghia fiesta gets).

Did love my dturbo car tho...
