Panasonic CD player DP800E

Featured Replies

Trying to install the aforementioned CD player (it's an old one I had from my previous car and probably removed it about 10 years ago!) into my Polo, and need a bit of help. I've done a search for a technical manual on-line but can't find one (not even on Panasonic's website). Some of the wires are labelled:

Battery - this is obvious

ACC - not sure what this is

Both of the above are connected to a black plug, along with a wire that I labelled as Antenna when I removed the unit from my old car.

Earth - this is obvious

4 speaker wires (I think), 2 white and 2 grey

4 wires, 2 green and 2 purple, connected to a brown plug

The coloured wires I'm not sure about hence the need for wiring specs for the unit!

I'm swapping it out for a Sony cassette player which was standard fit on the 1995-2000 Polos. I've also got a Pioneer power amp, but I think it's going to be a headache to fit, and pretty pointless as the Polo only has 2 front speakers! :D I'm going to look at the tape player connections later on to see if have the same colour connections. I'd like to DIY the install and learn something rather than take it somewhere to be fitted. All advice appreciated.

Green and purple ones are also speakers (rear, I think)

Not sure one ACC, but antenna is the lead which you would connect to a powered aerial or amplifier.

Best I can help I'm afraid.

ACC is the switched power supply that goes off/on with ignition key.

Cheers! OK, I won't connect the green & purple ones as I haven't got any rear speakers! :D

Thanks. I was thinking it was probably to do with that. In my old Golf that I took the player out of, the installer didn't wire this connection in so I had power to the unit with the ignition off. But I know the Sony unit is wired to only power on when the ignition key is turned on & it's something I prefer.

I had a feeling this wasn't going to be easy.... :( took the sony unit out this morning. There were two wired plugs connected to the back of it, but nothing seems to correspond colour wise to the panasonic. Just 4 brown wires, 2 blue and 2 red, plus the antenna connector. The colour coding doesn't seem to match what I saw from a wiring connection loom for VW/Audi at Halfords yesterday. :thumbdwn: So I've put the tape player back in and will probably get a personal MP3 player instead.
