No broadband wtf?

Featured Replies

I am about to move into a rented farm house (don't ask its a long story) and it is in the 1.8% or something like that of the UK that does not have an adsl enabled exchange

How can i get broadband? I have been looking at mobile broadband but its rather expensive and i would need a router as there are a few machines. One company is offering some sort of super duper wireless that is beamed to the house but that is even more expensive... HELP! How will i survive without the interweb?

I used to use a Vodaphone 3G type card on my laptop for browsing, would that kind of thing work ?

if you cant get adsl, and I very much dought that a cable company would put a line in then broadband will not be doable at all. Being in the countryside then mobile 3g broadband may not work either, due to 3g coverage issues. The best it looks like for you is either a 56K modem, or a simillar speed gprs mobile connection. Watch the mobile solutions though, they have very limited monthly traffic limits of usuall 1 to 3GB per month.

Can you still get ISDN linked over 2 lines?

My mate down west wales has some sort of BB through his Sky dish, then it uploads via 56k

Not sure of the finer details butI can find out for you if you like

No Porn  then what's the point? :P

If you have access to a 3g phone then turn on 3g or go to dual mode, and do a manual search. See what operators come up. Stand still when your doing this. If a 3g network comes up check again all round the house. This will give you an indication of coverage. If you do buy one they can go back within 14 days anyway but check as you buy it to be sure.

I think BT still offer their ISDN2e home highway or a similar package. eg 2 * 64k ISDN lines bonded to give you 128k/128k.

Not perfect, but if you can get a phone you can get that :)

newlands valley is like that... there are about 6 farm properties, and the ISP's aren't interested in supplying broadband, they say it wouldn't be cost effective to put the equipment in for just a few houses!

I'd suggest BB through sattelite....
