Fuel Flap wont open - urgent help needed

Featured Replies

Typical.

Wife's just gone to the petrol station to fill up, pulled on the fuel flap release but the fuel flap hasn't opened. wouldn't be so bad but am driving 300+ miles in a few hours on our holidays. Another problem is is that I'm not currently with the car so I can't try anything cos' I'm stuck at work.

I've read through a few threads on here about this problem but I need to get the flap open urgently, can it be popped open with a very slim screwdriver? I can fix it properly once I get to where we're going but I was just going to tape it back down for now as from what I've read the the mechanism has come loose somewhere under the boot trim.

It is a 2001 Combi if that helps, any help would be great cos' I really need to get it open and I don't want to have to break the flap off :(

Thanks

Maybe wrong but I think you can open it from inside the boot, behind the fabric trim...Think you can pull the wire release from there.

Correct.

The cable can be accessed behind the boot trim.

cheers for quick replies

is it easy to get behind the boot trim just to pull the release? or will I have to get my tools out and remove a whole piece of trim

Very easy. Just need to pull out the carpet material from the panel.

No need for any tools.

The trip can be pulled to one side as I don't think it's actually fastened in place. It can then just be pushed back into place, it's sort of shaped which keeps it in place

thanks that's great. will do it when I get home.

Will catch a big wave for you at Croyde Bay next week in recognition of your services

The cable keeps popping out on mine too. Easy job just a PITA if you keep having to do it.
