My first Skoda

Featured Replies

Hello everybody. I have just got my first Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi. I have never owned one before having had a Ford Mondeo 2L petrol car for the last 5 years. Due to my Mondy coming to the end of its life and finding the petrol running costs to be spiraling over recent months I had the opportunity to acquire the Skoda from my dad who had bought a smaller car.

I must say I am really surprised as to how good this car is. The acceleration up steep hills is loads better than I imagined and the fuel consumption appears to be a joy compared with my old car. Gear box is nice and I find it roomy and comfortable to drive, the driving position being slightly higher.

Driving the car on the 300 mile journey back home on Sunday was really enjoyable (apart from the closure of the M42/M5 junction) and I found the car to be easily capable of cruising at 100mph without me realizing I was going that fast.

The only thing I would say on the downside is the absolutely horrible car stereo system. I found this forum searching for tips on changing the head unit and speakers which I will do in the next few weeks. It's a real shame I think that such a great car should have such a poor ICE system.

Anyway thanks for having me on the forum and I hope that I can help in some way to share information I learn on the way.
