Please report your Fabia MPG!!!

Featured Replies

My fabia TD 80 has now done 6500 miles, and still averages 56mpg no matter how I drive it. It has done that since day one with 7 miles on the clock!

This week I have just averaged 59.1 on a 50 mile country road journey, often being stuck behind lorries & tractors, so mostly 40-45mph in 4th gear.

Another thing - it may be the fuel you are using. I have stopped using supermarket fuel as round here it is only 1p per litre cheaper, and the better brands eg shell or esso seem to run cleaner & smoother. I once saw a comparison on TV that showed supermarket fuel is often quite dirty, so unless it is a lot cheaper it may not be worth it.

I also found on a couple of trials that the premium fuels (eg Ultimate) gave me 10% better fuel economy, so if it is less than 10% dearer than standard fuel would actually work out cheaper per mile.

Thanks again for some more valuable information Dave. My wife and I have just ordered a 1.4 tdi 80 fabia 2 estate. That was a mouthfull!!! I hope we get the same results that you get. I went to a tesco on my way to work to fill up our fiesta last week and they said I couldn't get clubcard points cos they used esso fuel. But it was priced like tesco fuel and not a shell or esso price. If what you say about it being better quality fuel and thus better economy and smoother running then our clubcard points can sod off!!! Thank you again Dave, and I'm looking forward to picking up our new fabia. Hopefully 10 weeks... cos I want a 58 plate... Vanity...

68.9 on the run to work today.

During the warmer weather you should normally get higher mpg figures and then in winter they should drop slightly.

How do you work that out then? This has been discussed before but the warmer the air temperature the less dense the air, therefore less efficient combustion. Colder air equals more dense air equals better combustion. There is an optimal temperature for which the ECU is programmed.

in the cold you probably will have the heater on for you and to demist the windows thus using more diesel... or at least that's all I could come up with!!!

The warm up time to normal temperature is longer? The air is more dense so gives more air resistance? Lights are used more so the alternator load is increased? Anti waxing additives are added to the fuel for winter which weakens the fuel? Tyres are not as flexible? Oils and greases are thicker and draggier? That's me lot :rubchin:

Just wondering, has anyone noticed any improvement in their mpg figures since their last report, or since their last fill up. Any update on your history of figures would be brilliant.

My wife and I are currently saving up for a deposit on a 1.4 tdi 2 estate, so any updates involving this engine would especially be received greatfully!!!

Thanks guys!!!

When I got my first car in 1982 it was a 1959 Morris Minor and in the glove box was a notebook containing an entry of every time it was filled up with fuel.ie date, speedo reading, amount of fuel and the cost. The car had been left in someones garden for a few years as the last entry had petrol 2.6 gallons for £2.00[76 pence a gallon] in August 1978.

Being one for statistics and useless information I kept recording all fuel use for this car and all others I have owned ever since.Morris Minor[still have it],Skoda Estelle,Fabia Comfort Estate 1.9Tdi and my new car a Fabia 3 estate 1.9Tdi.You`re probably thinking how sad,but I`ve heard just about every derogatory remark from different people for driving a Morris Minor for 18 years then having Skodas afterwards. Getting back to mpg for the 53 plated Skoda Fabia Estate 1.9 Tdi-overall mileage- 40,151/fuel used-3444.66 litres or 757.07 gallons/at a cost of £3254.16. This gives 53mpg overall. This was using the car for work every day,20 miles at speed around 40mph and holidays mostly up to Scotland for a week at a time and 3/4 trips to Colchester every year at motorway speeds.:)

Just aside another question on my maxidot while keeping a track of mpg a new Indictor 2 came up the other day stating 67 hours and 15 minutes. Without recourse to the book this means? please. My Fabia 3 1.4 filled again the other day and the reading during the period was worse 53 and best 58 mpg.
