Side WIndow Sunblind flew away

Featured Replies

Interesting thing...

It was extremely hot day today here in south of Portugal, 38 degrees C. My Octy was parked on the sun whole day. In the late afternoon I've unlocked the car and kept the button pressed to open all windows. As I have sunblinds on the side windows (on the back) I always have to remember to close the back windows as soon as I take off. Today I forgot and got to fast road. Car was still too hot to get AC to function properly. Then I've heard "plop" sound from the back side window and thought: "Oh no, I've forgot to close back windows again"! It was the second time this summer. The first time, sunblinds just fell off and got to the back seat. But today, as soon as I've heard "plop" I've looked at the mirror and seen one sunblind flying away from the vehicle.

So I've stopped quickly on the emergency lane and there I was, running back (on foot of coarse) to get my sunblind. Thank god, it was Sunday and no much traffic. Got my sunblind and it's OK.

Now I'm thinking of buying the piece of perforated black film that you can see on the buses running through the cities. They use it for those publicity announcements. I would stick it inside the glass and get the same effect as from sunblinds, maybe even better. I think if properly mounted, windows would open with no broblems. Wouldn't need to take it off in the winter as I use my sunblinds whole the year because of the sun here that is strong in the winter as well.

Opinions?

Sounds a good idea to me - you'd have to make sure that the sticky side was black. On most of the busses around here that have it fitted on the out side it's white on the inside!

how about good old sunfilm?

Thanks for that. I've spotted on my way to work one company that make them. I'll go and ask.

Well, I've looked for it already but couldn't find right one.

Why not look at getting proper privacy

film, that could addess UV issues that advertising film may not.

Well, if I do, I'd have to change the registration documents and go to do Vehicle Inspection as here in Portugal tinted windows are considered as change that need approval. Only cars that come out of the factory with tinted windows are already pre-approved. All others have to present tinting to Inspection and change registration documents (if approved). Too much hassle for me.

Maybe you can tie a small nylon string to the sun blind and anchor it to the grab-handle.

Btw, are you referring the those window-shaped sun blinds that Skoda sells? I am using the same and they fit nicely into the metal clips around the glass frame. Hard to imagine they fly off, but TBH never tried so don't know any better.

Yes, and don't try to drive 60MPH with all 4 windows open. You'll loose yours as well.
