Well, ordered a 1.9tdi 4x4 estate on Saturday. Lots of options, but now triyng to work out the details.

Currently we run the iPod with a Griffin iTrip, which charges as well. With the connector in the jumbo box we need a power source. Typically there are several things we need the accessory socket for (sat-nav, hands free). Is there any other way of powering the iPod?

That really depends on your chosen charging accessory and how DIY capable you are.

You could run a hardwired supply from the fuse box, you could add another socket adaptor.

I needed to extend the power supply options but took the really easy approach - a four way switchable extension (the switching being important because the cigarette lighter socket is live all of the time) and fitted it on the passenger side.

In fact there was an article hereabouts on doing exactly this but hardwiring it in rather than just using the socket as I did. Had a quick look, but couldn't find it again - a forum search should find it...

Simple, effective and requires absolutely no D-I-Y skills!

If you don't use the cd autochanger, you could always get the denison ice-link iPod adapter. it takes the place of the cd changer connector in the back of the radio and you have limited control through the radio controls.

It also charges the ipod while you are at it.

In the accessories book there is an iPod lead, for a mere £99, which connects to a socket in the glovebox. Would I be right in assuming that this is only fitted with a Strean radio and no jumbo box?

I believe Denison also do an adapter that allows you to still keep your autochanger but also use you ipod as well. This costs more than the changer replacement one but allows you to use more sources of music. The ipod lead I believe will not come with the jumbo box and may even be a rebadge Denison unit.

I just plugged the extension into the cigarette lighter and put the outlets between the passenger seat and handbrake. I found the article published previously about extension sockets here

that is what I posted above. It will only work with the stream radio though. Jumbo box has nothing to do with it.
