  • All I can say is that it's amazing what a 1yr old can do with a phone in 5 minutes. I don't have a clue how he could of done it, select Tapatalk, then Briskoda, finally select an old post lol. How do

Just been out to the car park at work, as somebody just told me one of the directors has a new car on trial. Its only one of these X6's. First one i have seen. And it is bloody huge! It doesnt quite know what it is does it? Like a jacked up car on steroids. It does look gangsta, in black on 21" alloys. Apparently he really likes it and is ordering one. Got some pics on my phone of it, but I dont have internet at home yet as just moved house. I dont think its as ugly as some people are saying, but its far from a looker.

I saw one on Sunday, I actually quite liked it from the brief glimpse I saw.

Mind you I used to have one of those CRX's as well!!!

I like 'em...have been contemplating one as replacement to the Octy. :)

Rob.

You can keep the Micra in the Glove box like those luxury Yachts with their spare speedboat:D

Saw one in Dubai. Also saw a 1 series coupe yesterday.

I think BMW has lost the plot. If I had big bucks to spend on German metal right now it would be going to Audi.

Its a pointless car for sure, and to me makes no sense. But I don't think its as ugly as you all make out...

I have to admit we had a Mondeo estate & a Jeep Cherokee not so long ago. :o

The problem with the armoured car is that soon all your neighbours would have these:

Is that an estelle it's crushing?

It's not a pretty sight at all. Looks like it was designed by a commitee, none of whom talked to each other.

I'm sure they'll sell some, as some people will buy anything that has the blue propellor on it.

As I said when the Cayenne came out, it looked like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Then the ugly farmer came along and beat it with the ugly stick. It's the worst thing since the Ford Scorpio, which was so ugly that it frightened the air in front of it to improve it's aerodynamics!

Phil

Au contraire...it's something with the practicality of a 4x4 with a more elegant appearance than is typical of 4x4s. Which, believe it or not, there's a market for. :)

You mean something bigger and much heavier than an Octavia, with less interior and boot space than a Citroen ZX or R19, and with a 4wd system that no-one will dare use for anything worse than those viciously high kerbs outside Harrods? ;)

Seriously, I've been disappointed by the interior space of every SUV I've ever been in, and you can get better fuel economy from a proper car with the same engine.

I think most of you guys have lost the plot. If people want this type of car, then a manufacturer will build it. it’s like saying why would anyone want a Turbo Octavia that can crack 140mph? in this country we have a 70 limit (and most cars in this country that can crack 70 do not go anywhere near an Autobahn or race track) and besides you can buy a cheaper and equally serviceable car from Korea that is just as sensible as a standard Octy and has more kit.

Some people like cars for status, some for looks, some for performance and some purely for their practical nature. Its horses for courses. When the 911 first came out I don’t think it looked particularly attractive compared to a then current Ferrari, but it had it’s own strengths and as history proved it became a best seller as well as a brilliant car. The X6 might be what the Chelsea set want, so they put their money where their desires are and BMW build it. The big Audi 4 x 4 is even uglier, but people will still buy them.

Indeed - I no longer require a car with the interior space of an Octavia, but require something which has better build quality, safety and refinement...making something like the X6 a good proposition...

Would suspect anyone contemplating a vehicle with a 3.0l+ engine isn't really that arsed about fuel economy... :)

Careful Rob, we might end up in agreement

Well yes, losing the intermittent squeak from the LH B post trim would be nice, but every car I've ever driven up here has done that.

Safety, except in an "I'm alright Jack; I don't care about you" sense has nothing to do with height and mass, and what if you then hit something similarly sized; the last comparitive stats I saw indicated that SUVs come off worse than proper cars in single vehicle collisions or collisions with vehicles of similar size, even if they do crush smaller ones.

Also, unless you can afford several cars, you need to spend on something that delivers as close as possible to your most demanding requirements in each criterion. Unless you actually off-road, a 4x4 transmission in a shell that's giraffedy feet tall is unlikely to meet any of them IME.

I'm not a fan, but then I'm more of the person they are targeting with the 1 and 3 series.

As for the 3L+ engine comment, so true.

Your experience of Skoda ownership is obviously somewhat different from mine...

10-year-old design Octavia - 3 star Euro-NCAP.

2003 BMW X5 - 5 start Euro-NCAP...assumption made that the X6 score will be the same.

Given the choice between the two I'd be transporting my family in the latter...

Granted there are other cars which would meet the criteria, but after all the boxes have been ticked there is a certain element of "want that one" in which a giraffedy tall 4x4 could win out...

Rob.

Entirely agree that everyone should be entitled to choose what they like and everyone sees beauty differently.

I really, really cannot see the attraction of 1 series and yet I thought a mk 1 skoda vRS was good looking:eek:.I know the 1 would be a miles better car

The Cayennes never did for me and how fantastic a car company is Porsche?

If I was really trying to hide my 4x4 fetish from people I'd have to plump for an Audi Allroad...but thats just cos I like them and many would think they are as ugly as a Rover Streetwise:D

The MK I octy (elegance was a 4* car)

Euro NCAP - For safer cars | Skoda Octavia

Your point still stands mind, although a big 4x4 will still ride over the crash protection in most cars.

Quite possibly, but mine matches every Scottish taxi driver I've ever talked cars with, inc one who has several on fleet, and had a vRS for his personal car until fuel costs got too much for him to bear.

You are aware that NCAP kneecap all ratings for cars previously tested whenever they change the tests? I was quoting real-world data taken by the authorities and insurers from actual road accidents. Basically, I wouldn't use NCAP data to judge safety.

Fair enough; I see avoiding excess pitch and roll, and hence being able to avoid the shunt, as more important than blocking other drivers' sightlines with excess sheet metal.

That's nice. Mine being the least reliable car I've ever owned, I don't intend buying another one, regardless of how fantastic other people may find them. :)

Sorry, must've missed the bit where you actually quoted them rather than giving your interpretation of them...as far as I'm aware, stats around "SUVs" as a classification are generally bobbins, as they usually include commercial vehicles.

As to the value of NCAP - looking at the images of a 1-star car compared to a 5-star car, the latter seems to handle the impact with the least danger to occupants. From this, I think it's fair to say that a 5-star car is safer than a 1-star car, and therein lies the value of NCAP as a benchmark.

I tend to use driving properly as a way of avoiding shunts, but each to their own. :)

You've won the lottery haven't you Rob:thumbup:

Like it or loathe it,it will sadly attract an awful lot of negative attention .

Gawd, people even call our X Trail a Chelsea Tractor and its really just a big estate car.

The world of motoring is becoming very sad :(

(anyway, thought you'd pushed the troublesome octavia off a cliff years ago:confused:)

I have to say that it now joins the Porsche Cayenne as the car of choice for motorists with no taste :thumbdwn: It also starts at £43K!

BMW only did it because Merc made the CLS and they didn't want to be accused of following any trends, unlike VW who have created quite a nice looking car with the Passat CC.

It's a pity BMW didn't spend the money that they used on developing the X6 on making the rest of their range better looking.
