Told A Work Mate About The Cambelt....

Featured Replies

I was recently told by my local Skoda dealer that the cam belt in the VRS should be changed every 4 years or 80,000 miles, I questioned the bloke and he confirmed it was 80,000 miles.

Ask him if his company will be prepared to suffer the cost of your failed cambelt if you wait until 80,000 miles and it breaks... I expect the answer will be no.

ID change it

I once saw a Skoda Mechanic change a belt on a 1.4 polo in 16 minutes flat, was crazeeee

But the think that amazes me is that the garage was official Skoda and he looked on his PC and came up with the 80,000 miles, very strange how some official garages are inconsistant with each other on such an important part.

Its changes depending on the engine code and model year.

I'd have expected to need more than that just to remove and replace the covers and engine mounting!

There is a bit more to it than that yes, but not much really.

It's all pretty accessible short of slacking the alternator and removing the aux belt from my memories.
