Might be about to buy a 54 plate octy 2.0 TDi.

The dealer says its a 140hp, but how can I be certain, the badge on the back has just the "i" in red.

Its got 24,000 on the clock and the best deal i've been able to get from the dealer is £3100 + my current Fab VRS 54 plate (56,000 miles), does that sound about right?

I've had enough of Black smoke (jabba) and no boot space or climate control

Also how can I tell Ambiente and Elegance apart, this one has the 16" wheels and climate control, does that mean its an Elegance?

The 2.0TDI was only in 140bhp trim at that time.

The 1.9 was the other option which has a 5 speed gearbox instead of 6.

The Ambiente had air con rather than climate though it was an optional extra , but you should also have badges on the side to say the trim level as well as the V5 to check.

I don't believe the ambiente has headlight washers , and at that age would have had steel wheels or 15" 5 spokes as standard.

A 54 plate Ambiente will have Climatic semi automatic A/C and steel wheels and plastic wheel trims and no cruise control

Ambient has 5 spoke alloys and the Elegance has 6 spoke alloys also.

sounds like this is an elegance tdi 140 then might go buy it tomorrow.

from what I've seen, the money looks right on the mark too.

Mine is the Ambient and has 15" alloys 5 spoke.

No there is no trim spec badges on the MK2 but was on the MK1.

Best bet is to look at KW rating figure in the manufacturers sticker in the wheel area of the boot. If it says 103kw it is the 2.0l TDI!!

The elegance will have front spot lights in the lower grille section. Look at the registration certificate mine states Octavia ambiente TDI PD under model/type

Mine is 140hp and it has only "i" in red.

One thing I can guarantee is that you'll still get black smoke!!
