tyre changing

Featured Replies

Further to my story about tyre fitters scraping the alloys, if I am offered new wheels tomorrow, is it safe to have the newly fitted tyres taken off the old wheels and put on the new ones or can all that levering about affect the condition of the new tyres?

As long as they do it on the machine it's ok. Prying them out with levers and grease is not.

I just wonder how they managed to scratch the wheels putting the tires on. Most tire machines these days are fool proof.

I'd be more concerned that they might stuff up the new wheels, after all they didn't seem to learn from the damage they did to the first one they scratched !

That's exactly what I thought - if the berk realised he'd damaged one wheel, why go on to muck up the others?

Also he obviously hoped I'd not notice for a week or two! I cleaned the lube muck off as soon as I got home, and went straight back.

I'll be interested to see what kind of story/offer the boss tries on tomorrow.

Trouble is, if I let them "repair" some of the wheels they are bound to look different from the remaining one.

I ought to ask for new tyres ready-fitted to new wheels, then I go up there and they just swap the wheels. They could then do what they like with my old ones (with their practically new tyres). But I don't reckon they will wear that.

Similiar happened me, small damaged so I asked just to fix that spot, they resprayed the whole wheel. The Laquar came off so he resprayed it. There was dribble marks, a hair stuck in it and the inside of rim is like sand paper. I'm gonna push now for a new wheel.

Oh great - was it done by a specialist, or by the garage that did the damage themselves?
