KW coilovers corrosion!!

Featured Replies

hi all

removed the rear springs and perches yesterday to adjust the height and give them a clean, noticed that the springs were corroding:eek: .it's where the coils sit on each other, looks like they have been rubbing and the powdercoating has worn off.now do i have a warranty claim?or is it one of those things?has anyone else noticed this?looks to me like it's unavoidable because the springs are progressive.they have only been on the car for 9 months:mad: any advice greatly app

I would recommend brushing or spraying the springs with Waxoyl to help prevent further rusting. I assume that there is also some rust elsewhere on the underside of your car, eg on the suspension arms etc, and that you accept that as being normal wear and tear.

It happens im afraid.

H+R now put a plastic tubing over the spring to stop it rubbing the coating off.

I usually clean if off and apply a bit of white spray grease.

no there isn't rust anywhere else, the standard springs when removed were fine,i guess i have to accept the fact that the kw's are progressive, even if replaced it will happen again.i think i will get some heat shrink tubing to put over them?

It is just where the last few coils are bound and they sit on one another and thus rub together.

A new set will do the same, some form of rubber buffer will help.
