speaker upgrade

Featured Replies

hiya, the mrs has killed her front speakers in her fabie vrs.. :orb_sad:

i was just wonderign if anyone has changed the oe to a aftermarket and if so what did you go for as it seems they are very shallow?

Hey,

Sometimes aftermarket speakers need mounting brackets put on the door first to give that extra depth needed. Never done it on my Skoda but had alot of troubles trying to get after market speakers to look and sound good in my old car.

Best bet would be to find standard speakers. Either at a dealer (£££) or at a car breakers, and take some out of the same kind of car (if anyone has crashed one recently). Much cheaper and i think the standard speakers sound great!

Mike

The front speakers in the Fabia are at best poor.

You will need adaptors to fit decent 165mm speakers in.

Start here Skoda Fabia Front & Rear Door Speaker Adaptor Collars RRP £20 [sa0863-165] - £9.99 : Deals On Ice, Car Audio Fittings and Accessories

The originals are riveted in and will need to be drilled out. You can replace these with clips and ST screws when you fit the adaptors

Whilst you have the card off and the door in bits I suggest putting some Dynamat in behind them.

Will the collars and decent speakers still fit behind the door cards?

Ant recommendations as to which decent speakers to fit?

Id just stick with the standard replacement speakers, to fit half decent speakers you really need door builds

Ive just had door builds built, took almost a whole week, so it wasnt cheap!

I am interested in changing the OEM speakers. Never heard of a door build but can imagine what one looks like...any chance of some pics??

i had the same problem, I changed mine with mk4 golf speakers which was a direct replacement and seemed to sound a little better (probaby because I was used to hearing them pop) never had any problems since.

mK4 Golf speakers are brilliant!
