Rough vRS idle and flashing engine light

Featured Replies

On saturday, I switched to Bosch super 4 plugs. Engine sounded smooth, no probs.

Today, tuesday, on my way back, was driving around 30 mph when car sounded rough and engine check light flashed, Stopped, checked spark plug connections. Car sounded rough and drove slowly but the light did not come on until it pulled under load.

Fuel consumption and temperature were normal

Reached home, switched back to the original plugs and revved the engine. It seems to be okay but idles very roughly at 1500 RPM

My VAG-COm is with a mate and should be back in a day or two.

1: Were those Bosch plugs trouble?

2: Have I got a fuel flow problem?

3: Can I use car for my commute albeit gently?

Car was serviced 500 miles back

Coil Packs I reckon, or maybe the MAF.

You need Vagcom pronto !!!

:iagree: , so do the unplug test and see if it's the MAF or not!

I don't reckon the Bosch plugs are trouble per se, but think multi-electrode plugs are utterly pointless except as a way of extending service intervals.

Had the same problem on mine after fitting super4s needed to change 2 coil packs in all fairness the were the old ones check the part numbers on your coil packs the latest ones end R any letters before that i would change i had 1 L and a M changed them all good now!!

Usually find and old coil pack tends to fail after its been removed for new plugs to be fitted.

Got the error codes

16884 and 16885 so it seems to centre around cylinder 1 misfiring. Since it is consistent with two sets of spark plugs, I probably need to swap a couple of coil packs and run the scan to confirm this. Any other suggestions ?

Sounds identical to what i had, it's one if not a couple of the coil packs matey.

if it says what cylinder(s) I would suggest new coil packs. About £18 each if you shop around so just do it.

........and a coil pack it was, replaced the coil pack on number 1 and the engine is sweet as a nut. I do not have the heart to put the bosch plugs back and disrupt things again.

Thanks everyone, especially another Briskodian (I know him from another forum but I do not know his handle over here) for saving me significant dosh and sending me his coil packs which he removed for his upgrade,
