vRS SE Tyres

Featured Replies

Just thought i would post and ask what kind of mileage they are getting out of the standard bridgestone tyres on their Fabia VRS SE?

I think my fronts are due for renewal soon at 15k miles, whereas the michelin tyres that came with my old 53 plate VRS lasted well over 30k! i don't recall changing my driving style!!

i have also noticed there is a lot more wear on the outside of the tyres than the inside.

Any ideas How toyos would last relative to the standard brigestones?

cheers,

Steve

It's not the tyres.

It's the blue paint.

i've mangaged around 4000miles from one and still has a little life left in it, maybe. :D

I've gone through a set of toyo proxies on another (less powerful) car in about 6k. So, not long on the VRS, I would imagine...

I got 30,000 plus out of the Bridgestone Turanzas on the front of mine, and exactly 60,009 out of the rears. The Continental Sport Contact IIs that replaced the front Bridgestones lasted 20-25,000 miles, which is OK as the OEM ones always seem to last longer on a new car.

I got 8k miles from the tyres that came new with the car. Then 12k from T1Rs. and on 7k with next lot of T1Rs and think will get about 7k more frm this set.

seem to have got about 10,000 out of front sets of conti sport 2s

down to about 2mm

god knows how you get more i make progress but dont drive silly

am going to try uniroyal rainsports next as I had good experiences with them on my golf gtis

I got about 10k out of the bridgestones on the front, but I do a lot of town driving and going in and out of multistory carparks at least twice daily! Also not hanging about might have something to do with it!

i have also noticed there is a lot more wear on the outside of the tyres than the inside.

I have noticed this too, maybe I'll mention it on the next service!

Standard Bridgestones? My special edition came shod in Continental Sport Contacts. I thought the Conti's were the OE for vRS SE? Is this not the case? Anyway the continentals seem to be wearing ok (just done 11 thousand miles and the still look fresh.

:)

11000 miles and "Fresh"? How many mm of tread would you say you had left and how hard do you drive it?

I must admit I use the performance and the fronts work quite hard due to the inherent understeer, all that torque and the heavy TDI lump , I'm IAM qualified so im progressive with the controls

but Im stumpin up for new tyres every service, the gti was much lighter on tyres wear im convinced

(but then its a much lighter car)

I got ~15k out of my original Turanzas on the front (down to ~2mm) added a new one to the spare on the front again and they are now down to ~3mm @ 25k. Rears are ~5mm so will swap round and hopefully wear them all to replacement at ~30k. Mixed driving, lots of it on B roads. Sounds like Toyo's are popular choice but not decided what to go for yet. Still considering going up to 205/50 x 16 - would be interested to hear how those vRS Briskodians who have tried this size are doing?

I think i may have misinterpreted the rules, the tyres were down to the markers on the "detail" of the tread on the outside inch + 1/2 of the wheel, however in the 3 main grooves around the tyre there is probably about 3-4 MM left.

my new commute takes me M62 - m61 - m65 one way to work and m65 - grane road - m66 on the way home so it is mainly motorway driving with about 7 miles of "over the tops" road on the way home. i do a lot of roundabouts and "fast" corners though...

its strange that some SEs were supplied with different tyres, you would have thought they would all have been the same.

Steve

you've made me think now, I'm still on the originals on the rear @ 21k, and just got some budgets for the fronts as money was a little tight at the time.

Dont mean to hijack the thread but what advantages do the 205x50/16's have??

Mine appears to be on Conti's too. You must drive like a girl! The back ones are all right on mine, but the front ones are exhibiting serious wear after 9000 miles. I don't reckon they're going to last much more than 12K.

Think I must drive like a girl too... my VRS came with Conti's, just done 16,000 miles. The back ones are fine but the fronts are starting to look a little old and will want a change at the next service I expect (early 2009). One of the back ones has had a nail in it for the last 5,000 miles - if it was a front one I'd change it immediately but it hasn't lost any air yet (touch wood).

I keep the fronts pumped to 38psi and this seems to make them last fairly well.

Car has done 14000 miles now 3k on the oe bridgestones and i'm now on my 3rd set of toyo t1r's, these fabia's do seem to in through some boots eh?:D

My original Bridgestone ER300 lasted 20K on the front and 35K on the rear. I am now just about to change my fronts again at 40K so the Goodyear GSD2 have also lasted approx 20K on the front. and the New GSD3 on the rear still look brand new after 5 K

I run standard PSI as per filler cap.

Cheers

Matt

The points on my licence (not incured on a motorway) would disagree with the Feminine driving accusation ;-) The vRS recently had its first service and the dealers said they thought the wear was quite the norm and recomended swapping the fronts with the rears at the next service. Some of you guys must spin your fronts all the time! I know its quite easy in a vRS, and fun too, but if you want more than 10,000 miles from a set of tyres try keeping the traction light off!
