To Skoda in Sweden?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have just recently moved to Stockholm, Sweden and am looking to get a mid-sized car for our family. I am considering a 3 year old Octavia. I have not owned a Skoda before (only various VWs back in South Africa, which were great). I have read positive reviews of Skodas generally and the Octavia specifically.

My question though is how well they handle the cold climate here? Are they equipped to stand outdoors overnight at temperatures under -20 deg C and then start without a problem? Will the heavy salt loads used on roads here in the winter cause them to corrode? I am hoping that as the brand is from Czeck Republic they would have factored in cold weather running.

Any thoughts would be welcome!

Cheers

Anton

welcome along, not heard of any problems with them in the cold.

Hiya.

No idea, but if he doesn't answer in this thread, PM "SwedishSkoda"; He will know, being Swedish and a 2 Skoda family.

Welcome :)

Welcome!

I live in Finland, right next to Sweden and we have similar climate here too. I have 8 years old diesel Octavia and it has over 360 000km in clock. It doesn´t have any warming equipment. Nevertheless it has always started quite well even when temperatures drop below -20 Celcius. If you change the battery or glow plugs when needed, you shouldn´t have any problems.

OK - thanks to all for the advice. I looked at a 2006 1.6i Octavia yesterday and am impressed by the car. More importantly - so is my wife! So I am hoping to get one in the next month or so.

Cheers
