Home night vision camera - HELP !?

Featured Replies

Had some more local trouble / car damage (not mine) and its time to start recording what is happening in the world outside my front door

I think I need a single (or twin) wireless night vision camera that I can place above the front door and/or side window. I'm happy to run this to our VCR and record on long play every day. I came across this one:-

Has anyone any experince with what works and is easy to set up, relatively cheap to buy ?? I want to plug and play and not hard wire in.

If you get threatened a few times, you tend to want some evidence for the next time...

Are you sure you need the full on night vision thing? My next door neighbours got a very cheap and tiny camera set up for over their back door after a bit of trouble a couple of years ago. They still use it and I was astounded at the quality of the images especially in conjunction with one of those self activating lights. I'll try and find out where they got it from.

If you would - the 'only' trouble we get is at night - normally related to pub turn-out but I need something that will give me good enough recordable quality to at least identify the culprits for Police purposes. ie "We know who it is but need some evidence"

I just checked and they're not in at the moment but I'll try again later.

We live in a row of terraced houses and sometimes we get the odd bit of trouble with people coming down the passage and checking out the sheds, back doors etc. About a fortnight ago I noticed one morning that someone had been rooting around in the outside loos (we are oop north after all). The neighbour checked his camera and the guys face was very clear. Nothing was nicked but the police took the tape anyway. They've taken another tape before when all the lead got nicked out of said loos and apparently that was handy in getting a confession for other minor crimes. However, they can't use the actual tape as evidence because it doesn't have the time and date stamp on the images.

I remember reading somewhere that most black and white "CCTV" cameras will work under infra-red lighting really well... try Googling for some info and you're bound to pick something up that will help...

Thanks for the link - is it the VCR commander package at

check out cctv on ebay very cheap.

Tom.

have a look at maplins... they do a few cams... colour in day with i.r for night time...

?

i have one to fit on the car at some point when i get round to it..

A friend of mine used a Maplins IR camera part number MS37S and was well pleased with the results: produces a proper interlaced image at 500 x 576 which can feed a VCR or other device with a PAL composite signal.

See his website here for the info and pics. The last page goes over the techie bits

Well I asked the neighbours and they got theirs from Argos and apparently you can get them at Makro too. Cost about fifteen quid, it's about the size of a fag packet and hooks up to a normal VCR. It's black and white but from what I saw of the 'perp' from about ten feet away the image was spot on.

I bought mine from argos (its item 13 on page 89 of the cat.) a few years ago. I opted for the one that has a hard metal case around it, I find that as well as the picture the sound is great, you can hear what is going on. its only black & white, but all are in dark/dusk, the police were impressed with it when I showed them some stuff few years ago, had hassle with some local youths. I just recorded onto the vcr, there is no switching automatically, I just had it into av scart. it gave me peace of mind, I could just check on things descreetly, rather than looking out the window all the time n being on edge.

I also bought a security light, so there was extra light around to enhance the image.
