Scanner drivers/software - help!

Featured Replies

Why does everything computer wise have to be so damn awkward?? I've just moved my scanner upstairs to this computer, downloaded the drivers from the Epson website, Vista compatible etc etc. Theres no icon for the thing to work and if I press the buttons on the scanner nothing happens. I have looked for the Epson Smart panel thing but can't find it anywhere. I think my mum's hidden the disc and I can't find a download cos they don't make it anymore. How the hell am I supposed to get my f**king scanner to work??

Sorry, I'm just getting p"ssed off!

Thanks

Whats the model number.

I know the feeling so this MIGHT be a help as I had the same situation with Vista and my HP scanner. Apparently something to do with compatablity and the only way round it is to open Paint and start the scanning process there (rather than on the buttons on your scanner). In Paint, go to 'File' then 'From Scanner or camera'.

HTH

not a v350 perfection is it.

That and XP isn't ideal, but they seem to not have updated their drivers for ages and the XP ones should work with vista.

I installed only the basic driver and the scan utility and none of the extras for the buttons on the scanner.

That worked fine

HTH, feel free to catch me on msn if you need more.

My HP lost some functionality with Vista too.

And low and behold i fixed it.. :D

Ooh you little liar you!! I had the drivers and you just suggested plugging it into a different USB! When I did it decided it wanted to install the drivers afterall :P

Oh, and it was an Epson scanner, not HP :)

Thanks Loz; you've just re-reminded me exactly why I hate Mickeysh@ft!

Naa.. it was just schoolboy error on Loz's part.. installing the drivers with the hardware already plugged in.

All most driver installations do is copy the inf's to the drivercache folder.. which windoze searches every time new hardware is plugged in.. because the scanner was already plugged in, it didnt look and see "ahh i know what this is, and what drivers to use" until it was plugged in for the second time. :)

Slightly better installations do actually get the machine to poll the usb ports.. but usually they go for the easy option of a sheet of paper saying "install software before connecting"

As you describe this, you're reinstalling the drivers every time you connect a piece of hardware you've already used since you last powered the computer down yes?

No not so much re-installed.. but every peice of hardware is checked and matched up to a "info" file that contains what drivers to use and where to find them
