Is My Standard VRS Busted?

It does.

/sigh...

"I'm told it has done 132mph on a track"

Indeed.

The marker pen stripe is either just a poor joke or real muppetry. It makes you wonder sometimes why anyone offers advice if your just going to get trolls suck the life out of the preceedings.

Well,at least he could spell :)

I never had any problems wheelspinning my 64bhp SDI Fabia...

I don't doubt it.

However, I was talking about the wheels spinning after power is applied when already rolling.

Would your Fabia spin its wheels in such circumstances?

I've only had the the traction light come on twice in the furby.

Once during an aquaplaning "incident" - it did a really good job there.

The other time involved a certain amount of "air"

Deek.

Great!

This is along the lines of what I've experienced also.

Accelerating hard out of a roundabout also puts on the light, but I don't do that much as I know it will eat my tyres.

i can spin the wheels in my rwd petrol transit weighing nearly 2.5ton from a standing start, axle tramp too.

does that make me hard?

Sorry, but you're missing the point.

It's not about simply trying to break traction, it's about seeing if traction can be broken due to sheer power when already rolling.

I doubt even slipping the clutch and burying the accelerator would spin your Transit's wheels when already moving.

Mine is on Conti Sport Contact 2s, and i rarely get wheelspin in the dry unless doing something daft and clutch-threatening. It will wheelspin in the wet in first, second, or third if the road is at all greasy though.

The only time I can remember wheelspin in the dry recently was exiting a very tight hairpin bend uphill with the accelerator buried.

Supoib!

I concur entirely.

It seems my vRS may be just fine after all.

Thanks.

Non. C'est une ready reckoner of how well someone has broken traction. Weight, tyres, road surface, temperature, how suddenly the power is applied.....

Almost anything can be made to wheelspin.

Sorry, but you're missing the point.

It's not about simply trying to break traction, it's about seeing if traction can be broken due to sheer power when already rolling.

The fact that the car is already in motion helps diminish the significance of the factors you mention and highlight whether or not there is some awesome power output going on.

Perhaps, but rest assured it's not.

The only wind-ups I care to pen are satirical/ironic/hatstand reviews of things like The Hoff's Looking For/The Best Of David Hasselhoff (Import) on Amazon and the Bic Crystal Pen, also on Amazon.

Off topic, yes, but there's some fine writing in here and much mirth to be had if you ever get a mo...

Hoff: Amazon.ca: Customer Reviews: David Hasselhoff

Bic:Amazon.co.uk: Customer Reviews: BiC Kugelschreiber Cristal Kugelschreiber Cristal schwarz

Go on, add a review, you know you want to!

OK, you got me.

I can vouch for the veracity of the first statement.

Same goes for the second statement.

I can see why my credulity has been called into question as the two seem rather incongruous.

However, they are not, as the second statement has only been attributed to some third person so as to avoid self-incrimination.

Geddit now?

Sorry, I only said I was serious about the go-faster stripe as I was incredulous that someone would believe I would actually do such a thing and hold out hope that it might have an effect.

Further, in future I will endeavor to make my 'jokes' of a higher standard.

Finally, is being accused of 'real muppetry' actually a compliment?

It is, isn't it?

If like you say you are careful not to spin the wheels, then needles to say you won't spin them.

Once you are rolling, unless there is loose ground, it's wet or you are going uphill the car should stick to the road pretty well.

…. I ask as the wheels never lose traction in a straight line, right foot to the floor in first and second, even with the traction control switched off.

I must point out that in first gear I am careful not to spin the wheels by dumping the clutch or suchlike, but feed the power in gradually until we are rolling before nailing it (on a private road, naturally).

I feel there are only two possibilities.

1 - My car is not busted and the reason the wheels don’t spin is because the Conti SportContact 2s are doing their job well in getting the power down, alongside some fine suspension.

2 - My car is busted and it lacks the power to spin the wheels.

I love this thread!

Further, in future I will endeavor to make my 'jokes' of a higher standard.

I wouldn't bother.

Nope it wasn't.

You'd be amazed what some will do.

Thanks for the input.

Option 1 is looking by far the most likely, which means my car is running just fine.

Nice jubbly!

After talking to Jabba about my custom map, they commented on the BLT being more 'savage' in its power delivery and it throwing out more power as standard than the older and slightly smoother ASZ.

Might explain things a little I guess.

Just found the above on another thread.

Might help explain why some cars break traction easier than others (all other things being equal).
