Wahey!

Hello all. I've been lurking on here for a couple of days, but I thought I'd make my first post to let you guys know that I've put down a deposit on a 2007-model Roomster. It's awaited from Skoda UK at the moment but hopefully will be in for viewing by next weekend. Is there anything I should check when I look the car over? It's a level 2 1.9TDi with 3k miles. Looking forward to getting the car (if we go ahead) so we can finally start caravanning properly - I spent 3 days fitting a towbar to my current car (Toyota Townace) only for the gearbox to give up the ghost after 50 miles of towing....

Anyway, hello! Any advice gratefully received.

Welcome and nice choice of motor :)

Enjoy your new motor, 1.9tdi will make a nice towcar

oh, welcome to briskoda.

Welcome to Briskoda :wavey:

I also brought a '07 ex-Skoda GB car.Check the paint over carefully especially the roof for marks,i've got quite a few on mine, looks like the cars have been sat with tree sap left on them.I've tried polishing it out with T-Cut it's better but not perfect (teach me to look closer next time). Also check that the wheel nut bolt is there to remove the locking wheelnuts and that it's still got it's toolkit and ashtray, these little bits seem to go astray in company cars.Good choice of engine BTW

Enjoy your car...

Welcome! If you decide to DIY the towbar fitting, do ask for people's experiences. Fitted mine last month.

And I've bought it! Will be collecting next Saturday. I'm rather pleased:

"2" 1.9TDi in Storm Blue

Skoda-UK special rear discs rather than drums

2120 miles, rather than the advertised 3132

Will be checked by Skoda, then serviced, then valeted, before collection

Pretty clean anyway, but light scratches & small dent sorted out & stone chip dealt with

I'm not going to tell you how much I'm paying , but if you look at Roomsters on ebay/Autotrader I'm paying at the very lowest end for the car. Hehehehehehehe.

Next, I have a quote of £260 to fit a towbar/electrics (not the Skoda one) & am tempted due to the whole removal-of-rear-bumper-of-new-car & then the bumper-cutting issues. I think the price is reasonable but I'm not above fitting the towbar myself if it's relatively straight-forward (I've now done 2 & the second was "fun") - Stuart, what do you reckon?

All I have to do now is sort out the money (Brinks-Mat stylee) & then wait!!!

If that's dual electrics, definitely a bargain. If it's single then it's not bad. It all depends on personal finances. Removing the bumper needs care, rather than posing particular technical issues, likewise removing the internal trim for the electrics. If you DIY, definitely get a vehicle-specific wiring kit.

Finally, IMHO the sleek looks (!) of the Roomster demand either a removable tow ball or at least a swan-neck. The traditional 'twin bolt' ball will look a bit like a carbuncle on the back, so do check what's been quoted for.

Ive had my scout for a couple of weeks now and im delighted with it:)

Had to have a new windscreen after 3 days due to a bloody rock hitting it but alll done on insurance !!

I had the dealer put the skoda removable tow bar on mine as part of the deal, i know its not cheap but it works really well and all stores neatly in the spare wheel when not in use :)

Enjoy yours

Dan
