Hi there, new member here and I'd be grateful for any help given

I need to change the rear pads and discs on my 1.9 Tdi and can't seem to get the pistons back into thier calipers. Is there a special method to doing this?

Yes, you need the rewind tool

You can buy them from Halfords for about £15 ish. They are branded "Laser".

It twists at the same time as pushing in and in theory it coul be dono woth a G Clamp. I have done it with a piece of wood and two nails before now but as the tool isn't really expensive I would recommmend it

Laser's part number is 1314. Check that the packet includes the black U-shaped metal "shield" piece - the first one I bought didn't :(

Halfords also sell a very useful impact driver for £15 or so.

Gosh! how many miles have you done?

I dont think that I have ever had to change the rear pads on any car that I have ever owned and certainly have never had to change the disks and I have had cars where I have put over 100k miles on them.

It's used as a delivery van! Got a good few miles on it and the inside pad was down to the metal and scored the disc.

Unusual I know but it's not been the most reliable vehicle so far

Done 23k in mine and it's not missed a beat.

You usually end up replacing the rear brake discs/pads through corosion rather than wear as they don't do a lot.
