DOHC - Cam sprockets alignment?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just changed the belts. But realized that the tip in HAYNE's regarding how to position the two cam sprockets are imprecise:

Two holes that should correspond. But between two points you can always draw a straight line :-)

Understand that the holes should not be aligned with the centres of the sprockets? But possible positioned as close to each other as possible?

Still not exact...

My engine was running very very bad after replacements and with a lot of lights on panel…

I opened up again and changed only one tooth on the upper belt.

Now running OK but still annoying uneven on idle.

Anyone that could guide us towards a perfect timing?

Changed to default font.

I take it its a 1.4 16v.

If so the holes in the pulleys line up with holes in the head behind them and pins slot through the pulleys into the head.

Thank you!

I will now dismantle my car for the third time(!) and look for the holes behind the holes.
