Fabia vRS - Bridgestone Turanza ER300 (H Rated)

Featured Replies

Just tried to buy a new Bridgestone Turanza ER300 to replace my flat, and have been told that H rating is not high enough for my car, and they wouldn't fit it! The more shocking thing is that this was the standard tyre that came with the car (direct from Skoda)!

Is this correct, are they really unsuitable?

Hmm, confused more now. I think I actually ordered the wrong one (ER30) which is H rated. The ER300 is W rated and OK for the car.

the letter on your tyre is for the speed rating in your case H is 130 mph max, W is 168 mph max most commonly fitted to porsche's and high end merc's.

Hope this helps

IIRC the letter ultimately is the speed rating but also you have to take in consideration the torque from the wheels, ie. the more torque = higher speed rating

Yes, but the H rating is not what Skoda would have fitted to the VRS, H is for a few "shopping trolleys" - ie lesser cars. Also I agree about there being more than just max speed associated with the "speed rating" - I had Zs on my Passat for a while and have changed back to W, while the W has a higher speed rating than VR or Z (I think), the overall "shape" of the tyre is different and the Zs felt more secure than the Ws.

V or W rating is what you need for the Fabia vRS..... I have 3xW and 1xV on mine..... All Continental SportContact2's.

Cheers

Dave.

Y... Also I agree about there being more than just max speed associated with the "speed rating" ....

The tyre I quoted above is an "87W" - 87 being the load index and W as previously stated being the speed rating.

I always find this is a very useful tyre page:

Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 1 of 2

So, for a '87W' tyre, which is the spec I tend to come across when looking at 205/45/16 options for a standard Fabia vRS alloy, that equates to the tyre being capable of supporting a load of 545Kg and is able to run upto 160mph for ten minutes without coming to pieces and destroying itself.

As you can see, it's always best to have a tyre capable of serving you above and beyond what you'll ever need

Yeah - just a quick sum.

Maximum permissible total weight (MPTW) for a Fabia vRS = 1,720kg

MPTW per tyre = 430 = Load Index (LI) of 78/79

Add "safety factor" of say 15% = MPTW per tyre of 495 = LI of 83/84

So 87W looks good.

Yep, easily within range. Safety factor is usually 10% so no problem

If it helps, mine came with the Bridgestone's and a W rating as standard.

Me to my Vrs came with W rated Turanzers Er300, not a good tyre but hard wearing

Matt

I have Touranza's on the front and Michilen Pilot Premacy's on the back.

Touranza's seem seem to last a long time, as do the Michelin's. Grip ok on both of them.
