oil in the intake system

Featured Replies

Further to the Catch Can threads I decided to check my replaced EGR valve yesterday and to my suprise it was filling up nicely with oil, I only replaced the EGR valve a month or 2 ago.

Seeing just how much oil was in the EGR after a couple of months is it worth taking the Intercooler off to clean it out as it is at the lowest point for the oil to collect. If it is worth cleaning it out what should I use to clean it with?

This pic is about 1 year ago and I never knew what all that gunky stuff was around the intercooler but I'm guessing it's oil.

I'm also interested to know peoples' thoughts on this.

Something like brake and clutch cleaner will remove the oil. Just allow it to vent before you reconnect it to start it up.

Yep, brake cleaner is ideal.

Get yourself a new seal and clip while you are at it, they are pennies. :)

y what will happen?

If you don't alllow it to vent the engine will run on the brake cleaner which won't do it any good and will scare the crap out of you as it will probably make a horrendous knocking noise and run at maximum revs with out touching the throttle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

lol

thats y, lol

Or if you don't want to strip the entire system, run a can of powerboost through the system post maf after blanking off the egr.
