Went along to see the Superb at Chequered Flag Skoda at lunchtime today. They had a specced up 1.4 TSI S version with leather, sat nav etc in a nice light blue colour.

Inside generally was nice, switchgear had a nice feel although the sunvisor was the same as in the Octy and just didn't fit the cars feel. So much room in the front that I had to have my seat forward to reach the pedals (normally its fully back in the Octy) and there was still ample room in the back.

The rear boot/hatch is interesting to see in action and works well, just hope all the electronics don't fail!

So I had an interesting 10 mins poking around. Plenty of interest from other customers whilst I was there.

I was impressed with the car really nice. took a few pics

Now that looks better - the one I looked at had black leather/dash and was a tad too dark inside.

Some nice pics there Pete, thinking of changing yours?

how big was the boot, do you think a dog would be ok in there

Nice!

Dont think it would be large enough for a dog, as not much 'headroom'. probably be much safer to wait for the estate version.

SO much nicer in the flesh than it is in the pictures, those rear lights just somehow fit with it all.

Runboy, i work at chequered flag, was/am wearing black jumper with lilac/purple shirt and tie. long brown hair in a ponytail, might have spotted you without knowing it!

ok when is the estate version coming out

a few more pics. the boot is 100% better but it depends how big your dog is.

2009ish

what sort of spread did they put on :)

First,

A big thank you to Progress Skoda in Bedford, for allowing the opportunity of previewing the new Skoda Superb. :)

My initial view was when a new Superb passed me in Bedford Saturday evening as I was on the way home. My impression was that the "awkward" back end actually looked a lot better in the flesh.

So managed to nip out at lunch for a closer look. Anyone who doubted the styling at the rear, due to the twindoor, will surely be satisfied that it actually looks well proportioned. I think photos just accentuate the shape and do not do it justice. In my opinion the quality , fit and finish, is way better than the current Passat. I even liked the color (capuccino?)

So some pics: (apologies to the moderators for quantity!)

But we know much better ways to test the boot size!

Tink - I was there about 1.30, big chap, glasses, burgundy jacket, blue trousers. I spoke to an middle-aged (or a tad older... ;-) ) gent with dark hair and glasses who gave me a brochure.

Nice car. Never been up to see you guys at Chequered, we bought our Octy from Robinsons. Say no more. I might be up your way come trade-in time!

You mention the pics not showing the rear in the right light, and I agree, BUT! how you shot it in pic #4 reveals it, in most shots the rear boot line to the body swage line seens like 5 inches in width, but as your shot shows, it's actally more like 10 inches with a nice curved roll to it, effectively beefing the car out but with an elegant line.

Engine bay looks well laid out as well, fuel filter is prominent, as is the oil and air ones, and it even looks like a bulb can be changed without a box of band aids, cambelt still looks a bit hidden, hopefully a chain this time around, i think the Passat 2.0 D has a chain, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Funny thing is ppl still stop and look at my car even now, bearing in mind it's based on a 12 yr old style design, happened tonight on a rank, I noticed two fellas stop and check the badges out, and give it a general eye of admiration.

i went to the newbury dealer today (yesterday now) and they had a green one there. first impression was i didnt like the front, but it grew on me. the back looked like a pug to me, but did like the boot/hatch thing  The car has what looks like a mdf3 and in the back a little lcd which can display time to destination (off sat nav) and temp so kids cant say are we there yet lol. also a cig lighter in back to run kids dvd player and one in boot for cool box.

Car was quite big, it also had adaptive lights meaning faster you go the further down the road it shines and the drivers side headlight lights up further up the road so you can see further up before you over take. at slow speeds the light shines more on the road in the area just in front of you. The lights also turn the way you turning too.

I was told the car car has glass 4.85mm thick making it one of the thickess but as quiet to drive as the top end Audi's in the 40k and above price bracket.

i could see a few more vw things that have been passed down to it (or up to it) like where your drinks go there is a cover to move over the drinks holder for when not in use.

The adaptive parking will only work when going under 20 mph and when the car works out a space you can park in it will let you know and park you inline to the other cars, so if all cars are up the kerb then so will you be, if all cars are parked a foot from the kerb so will you be.

Ill see if i can get a picture from the local paper as we turned up and got put straight into a photo shoot with the car  sinister however made her excuses and left me to it and went for a wander over to pets at home

Kept that quiet ;)

So spill the beans, what have you got? any pictures?

1.4! isnt that a bit silly for a car of that size?

1.4tsi - presume that will be a 140bhp variant? The 1.8 has been described as swift so I would expect the 1.4 to be suitable for someone who isn't too worried about performance.

I saw one on the road today...

German plate in very light blue, looked very nice.

1.4TfSI not TSI as it won't have the supercharger in the 125hp offering in the Superb... Still should be a nice option especially after remaps become widely available!:P

Well had a good old nose round one this morning at Sherlodge, Have to say a very nice bit of kit. Maybe tempted in a couple of years time ;)

See if i can say to Lynz her Fabia needs replacing with a Roomster :D

and i will have a 170bhp crd DSG flappy paddles Elegance.

Bought another superb 1.9 tdi.I wasn't hanging on till the new one launched as i would have lost a shed full of money. Very happy with the deal and the new car.

Went to Falmouth Motors today, and they had the new Superb in Black Magic Pearl Effect with ivory leather interior.

Some piccies can be found here:

New Skoda Superb - a set on Flickr

I have to say that I was very impressed with the car. Build quality is very good, the twindoor is a really excellent feature and the space in the back has to be seen to be believed.

I also really liked the lighter coloured leather, but I don't think I could live with it on a daily basis. My daughter would soon make mincemeat out of it, so I guess it will have to be black leather for me.

Will definitely be ordering one, just as soon as Skoda get the fleet terms sorted out.

Bagpuss.
