Tyre recommendations.

Featured Replies

Hey guys what tyres would you recommend for my VRS, 90% of my traveling is on the motorway to and from work about 70 miles a day round trip.

A guy i work with used to work in a tyre shop and he said i should get michelins as these would last longer and give a quieter ride, but i went down to the local tyre shop today and was quoted 110 pounds per tyre

He said if i got them elsewhere he would charge 12 pound per tyre for fitting and balancing, i deffinately want a good brand tyre so is there anything else i should consider, and where should i look ?

Many thanks MV

i kinda like my Yokohama S306's very grippy in the dry, a bit slippy in wet though but no worse than whatever was fitted to the car when i bought it.

you can get good brand but cheaper tyres online from places like:

tyres online @ mytyres.co.uk: passenger tyres, summer tyres, winter tyres and tyre dealer

UK tyres online: Blackcircles.co.uk discount tyre specialist

i think on one of those you can buy them fitted, as in i think they send either the tyre to you or to a local place that they can use for fitting, not sure how it works as i've never used them but came recommended from a mate of mine.

Michelins have excellent wear but I'm sure there will be a torrent of postings condemning them for not being grippy enough.

They will be called "ditchfinders" and other such less than complemetary terms.

The choice is between grip and tyre life.

Another factor for the youngsters is the appearance of the tread pattern, believe it or not.

When I bought the car it had Toyos, lots of grip and noisy as hell & currently I'm on Vredestein which are so noisy I though a wheel bearing was knackered, grippy and best of all,the tread pattern looks really cool.

When the Vredesteins wear out I'll be putting Michelins on.

Michelins=

Overpriced

Ive had uniroyals for years and always found them consistently good inall conditions and especially in the wet, wear rates are good

just had 4 rainsport 2s fitted £68 plus vat and so far pretty good although ive only done one trip to work and still bedding them in

turn in seems much better than the contis which were more expensive and never that impressive

just my 2 pws worth

The new Hancook V12 Evo. I have had them on the front of my Fab Vrs for approx six months, my car lives on the M way very quiet seem to wear well good grip etc etc. Anyhow i am not sure if they are on general release yet to the public. I got mine from Hancook to try out. Hancook sponsor the Evo Hancook challenge in rallysport. At the end of the day their is a lot to choose from in the £55-100 bracket so good luck in your quest.

I got Firenza ST-08 on mine they arent very well known but cost £49 a corner and I find them brillaint

I have Good Year F1 Eagles on my Fabia vRS - didnt have time to shop round for them this time but they cost £368 at Kwik Fit (fitted) - overall great tyre - good wear and plenty grip.

I just got some new Hankooks the other day and for the price (£52.70 fitted) im VERY IMPRESSED.

Having said that ive had Uniroyal Rainsports on previous cars and I cant fault them for grip and wear.

Yep goodyear F1 GSD 3 are by far the best tyre i have had on my VRS. People say they are rubbish in the snow but that doesn't matter to me in UK.

Paid £280 fitted and balanced for 4 last month

Matt
