Defrost / Demist not good on Climatronic

Featured Replies

On my year 2000 SLX Tdi with Cliamtronic controls the defrost / demist setting does not send a lot of air to the windscreen and I can end up with foggy edges on such days. I looked (with a mirror) at the actuators levers on the heater body inside the car and they appear to be moving freely when called on by the pushbuttons on the climate control system.

ANY suggestions on what / how to check this out ...without removing the entire dashboard?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like it need a re-gas :)

The AIRCON appears to work OK.....the problem (compared to my old petrol car with manual heater) is that not enough air seems to be coming out of the window vents. I have replaced the pollen filter as well but still no good.

Any leaves restricting the air flow?

Demist on my vRS has never been great since the day I bought it - brand new!

If the air on "full cold" is icey cold, the aircon itself is ok.

Does the fan setting show the full 6 or maybe 7 bars when it's on demist?

you need to close the 4 dashboard vents completely if you want to help the demist on the windscreen. seems to work for me.

you can prove it by giving it a go and feeling the air coming out of the screen vent.

if a flap motor was gone, vagcom would tell you so.

Could also be a sticky/stuck flap motor.

I will exercise the controls and perfom a VAG com scan to see if anything shows up.

Thanks

Bodge is right, the demist function on the Mk I was always a bit pants. I think it tells you in the manual to close all the vents as Bodge has already said.

It was never fantastic in my Mk I and was like this from new, IIRC the dealer pointed it out when I picked up the car.

Mine tends to leave a little mist triangle on the passenger side, whats all that about?

Do you have a pollen filter? I had a similar problem and the filter was minging !!!!

Never had a problem with mine

I just shut all the vents as mentioned above somewhere

Not like my SWMBO Picasso! that car always ruddy steams up,soon as you turn the air con off it all mists up really bad,so annoying
