Service Question

Featured Replies

I bought a 1.8T Elegance last year (Nov).

When I purchased the car a service was agreed as part of the deal.

8k Miles & 8 months later and I've just had a service indicator of 1000 miles on the dash.

Surely this is too early?

Does this mean the car wasn't serviced when I bought it or maybe they didn't reset the service interval?

Is there any way to check?

If they didn't service it as per the sales agreement, do I have any comeback?

They probably only did a oil & filter change anyway!

What is the mileage on the car now?

35k, was 27k when I bought it.

Even if they only did a standard service, it should surely give me a year or 12k before it needs servicing again??

That's about right for a car on fixed service intervals, 10000 miles or 1 year.

Doesn,t that mean there is 1000 miles left before next service?

Neither of which are right - The car had exactly 27k when I bought it, and has only just gone over the 35k mark.

If I need a service in 1000 miles, it'll be 1000 miles & 2 & 1/2 months early

How on earth did we get on in the days before service reminders. It depends on how it was reset, on the buttons, or through the diagnostic port changing the relevant individual channels, or the proper way - recoding the dash panel and zeroing channel 2.

It is more than possible depending on the way it was reset, that maximum and minimum time to service was set to 9300 miles. This is a figure that comes in automatically on a re-set.

Now the maths bit, 9300 - 1000 = 8300

35000 - 27000 = 8000

assuming it has gone over 35000 by 300 miles = 8300 + the 1000 miles early =9300.

That is why it seems about right to me.

Where did you get the 12000 service interval from, that has never been used for an Octavia.

At a guess, there are people out there who've never read the VAG manuals, and have read other things that quote 12months/12_000miles, and then just assume.
