fabia airconditioning

Featured Replies

I have a 2001 fabia comfort, i had the aircon system regassed and checked by my dealer approx 12 months ago.

since then, the system has never appeared to be "good".

in the mornings when temperatures are cooler, it appears to get cold, nevr icy cold, but colder than the outside air temperature.

however, when its been a hot day, i open the windows fully, turn the fan on to circulate the air before turning the aircon switch on, the engine , if i am stopped do rise, but, no cold air.

i have one of the rechrge cans and guages, the gauge and hose i have, only fits the lower connection on the compressor pipework, the reading shown is 100 psi, it is showing way overcharged ?

i would welcome anyones thoughts on this, maybe a few pointers in the right direction, i do not want to go somewhere, pay out money, and find that the problem is still there after a little while.

thanks in advance.

I'd advise a fault code check to rule out the evap temp tensor.

But pressure wil not tell you if you have the correct amount of refridgerant in the car. Plus you really need to see whats happening on the high and low side of the circuit to determine whats going on which is why I have very little faith in one of those recharge cans (or any solution in a can for that matter).

I thought Chuck would approve of some can's?

If you need a Skoda dealer, there is one in Ashford, I use them ans they are great.

My cuz has got a prob on his a/c

Not blowing that cold.

Took it to Kwik Fit thinking all it needs was a regas but it turns out it's leaking from somewhere either a pipe or compressor.

Booked into a local garage to diagnose fully.

But if its a compressor is this an expensive repair?

still a puzzle, i have left home this morning for work at 5.30 am, turned the aircon on, coldish air coming from the vents, got to work, only 1mile journey, lifted the bonnet and the 2 pipes were getting cold, it appears that midday, with the aircon on, if i lift the bonnet the pipes are hot, almost untouchable, something to think about, would appreciate any comments on this please.

You need a fault code check done, it could be the evap temp sensor cutting it out.

thanks for your help Lummox, its appreciated.

i am an engineer, not on cars i might add, but usd to taking things apart etc.

i was wondering about buying a Super Vag 5053 fault code reader, may i ask what is your opinion of these, are they any good ?

many thanks in advance.

All sorted out now.

I went to where i bought the car, they straight away put it on diagnostics and found out that there was a wiring problem.

They traced it back to the internals on the compressor, did me a great favour and fitted a recon one, regassed it, heaven, ice cold air.

Good guys at Express garage at Herne bay.

Good to hear you have your problem sorted. As a bit of extra info for anybody reading about air con faults, these symptoms can also be attributed to the condensor not cooling the low pressure high temperature refrigerant. This can be down to the condensor fins badly damaged or blocked but more often the cooling fan is not running all the time with the aircon on (faulty fan).

So when the car is cold say in the morning, the aircon will work ok for a while and not too bad when the car is in good motion. But as the refrigerant temperature increases as it works harder the condensor is not cooling it quickly enough and therefore its temperature and subsequent pressure keeps rising until the tri-pressure switch trips out and stops the compressor shutting down the system until the refigerant eventually cools enough for it to start again. The low pressure pipe into the condensor will get hot enough in this situation that you can't touch it, it's normally just warm to hot.

At least that's what happened to a Ford Mondeo we had in the other day!
