Star Performances Car Detailed (Audi A5).

Featured Replies

Bit of a Re-Post from me :o But I stuck this in Star's forum for Jim too.

Not a full set of pics as we were pushed for time but you get the Idea.

Last Saturday Andrew and I popped up to Star Performance to give Jims Audi a once over.

No wash photos unfortunately as the heavens were threatening so we tried to get it inside as quick as possible.

The car got APC'd shuts and under the bonnet agitated with a detailing brush, the car is pretty new so rather than dirt it was more removal of delivery wax.

The car was then treated to 2 coats of megs hyperwash foam allowing to dwell in-between , first time I have used hyperwash as a foam and I was quite impressed.

Washed using the TBM and whilst wet we began claying using Megs Mild detailing clay as there were not too many bonded contaminents, only a couple of areas required slightly more agressive clay.

At this point the wheels were completely ignored.

It was a pleasure for us, we rolled the car inside of Stars workshop (Ahhhh space) and began to tape her up. (what's that dirty shed on the lift?)

Once the car was taped up we carried out an inspection of the paintwork, hallelujah it was in very good condition, I know its a new car but 9 times out of 10 they need a heavy correction from the showroom, this was very good condition with only a couple of small buffer trails, light marring and a few scratches where Jim's cat used it as a slide. (Still alive Jim?)

We carried out a test patch to see what was going to work for us and as expected on the VAG paint a pass with IP gave us the results we were looking for with a single pass then used 83 on areas with slightly more correction required.

The first pass resulted in an already renovated looking paint, so we then moved onto a complimentary Menz FMJ ontop. Being silver the car is difficult to make pop and have that wet look, we persevered taking a coat of HD cleanse across the car, giving us a base layer to apply Zymol wax on top of.. The HD cleanse was applied with a finishing pad on speed 4 on the PC.

We then passed across the car with 2 coats of Zymol Concours first left to cure for about half an hour and the second removed on a panel by panel basis.

I took the opportunity to give the engine bay a quick dress with Aerospace Protectant

Thankfully there was a ramp available and we put the car up in the air and Brian removed the wheels for us, they were cleaned on a wheel by wheel basis, they were not particularly dirty on the outside so a basic hyperwash soapy solution was used and only a few spots on the inner rim required a touch of megs wheel brightener and a couple of tar spots clayed off.

The wheels were sealed with Collinite and tyres with Megs endurance.

While it was up in the air I worked on the exhausts at head height, What A difference cleaning an exhaust without a bad back afterwards. The exhaust was quite unique, it was a satin dull finish, but I actually quite liked the understated look.

The wheels were then popped back on the car and torqued up, as we got her back on the ground the sun was beginning to penetrate the clouds, so we made the most of it and after we took a few shots inside we got her outside in the sun and were happy with the wet look.

Fantastic car to work on, it was a pleasure, I thought it was an S5 but would be happy with that, the interior (sorry no pics) is sweet and the V6 diesel sounds great, and by all accounts goes like the proverbial off a stick. With 370 lb/ft and 0-62 in 5.9 straight out the box got to be happy with that.

The S5 chin suits it to the ground too, (no Pun intended)

Thanks for reading and thanks to Star for letting us use their workshop, and Jim's daughter for making some needed coffee.

Wondering why no one has commented on this?

Good work mate and nice and easy set up on the ramps to get the wheels off, could do with one of those at home........

Nice work on the finish and it looks cracking for Silver.........still not too sure about the A5's yet or the A4's.........

Thanks Baker, I was wondering too, 100 views, I thought I may have farted in the thread before I left and scared some off :P

The ramp really was a godsend, Jim has been nice enough to offer a space on occasion if we are hard up, I will try not to wear out that offer and maybe save it for something special we may have coming up.

Keep me update on what your up to mate as it's nice to see some classy motors and really good turnarounds............

:rofl::rofl:

Looks a very good job done there

Great work mate, looking top class.

Bet using the lift made things easier x10... :P

Top job, and a nice car too.

good to see Star have plenty of money floating about :)

Nice job. I have a metallic silver 55 plate Octy and have just hand polished it with SRP and then was going to use Poorboys White Diamond Show Glaze and a paint sealant to finish it off (maybe Werkstatt AJT?) as i'd heard these better suit a silver than a wax. Any thoughts on that?

Looks spot on that, another good job

But an S5 front grille badge? What's the point in that

Thanks Steve.

Its a full S5 nose, I think there was an imperfection in the original bumper and Jim sent it into audi to be fixed, when they were changing the bumper under warranty he payed the extra to get the S version.

I have heard werkstatt is good on silver, have not used it personally, but I have used the PB glaze and that was good.

For a hard wax on silver Collinite 476 gives a good depth and plenty of protection too for not a huge amount of readies.

Thanks Steve.

Fair enough, hadn't spotted it was the full nose with the different mesh etc. Just looks out of place, especially as it's not got the S5 mirrors, then it's badged properly as a 3.0TDI at the back :)
