Fabia Window Wipers

Featured Replies

Hello people,

Thanks for setting up this forum... it's becoming increasingly useful, which really, is not a good thing!

This morning, driving to work, I discovered my window wipers had gone. The rears still work, but pulling the stalk towards me, I find that instead of spraying and wiping the front, its trying to do the back. This seems to me like a switch malfunction, but given the wealth of electrical problems known to plague this car, I know it could be anything. I just wonder if anyone has experienced this before, or just know what's going on. I've tried searching the forums but haven't found much to help.

Thanks!

SE Automotive? Sure you're not a garage?!

Anyway, my first advice would be to do a 'soft reset' on the wiper controller by finding the appropriate fuse and pulling it out for 10 seconds or so...

Thanks. I'll give that a go....

Does anyone else have any tips?

Try disconnecting the battery for an hour or so (you may need to re-code your radio and set the clock), otherwise you'll have to hook it up to the diagnostics...

im sure i read on hear somewhere that if the bonnet is not closed properly that the wipers wont work

could be worth checking that and the bonnet switch

That's true, actually - give it a go! :)

it's probably the control fuse that has gone, I think it's number 15, 10 amp on later cars, 5 amp on early models. Do a search you will find quite a bit.

I have to say... I'm the dumbo here!

Over the weekend, before I found the fuse layout online, I was checking each fuse to see if any was blown re: brake lights not working (now working with a new switch). I re-inserted the fuse number 15 into 14 above, which is a blank! Hence the non functional wipers! Also, checking the fuses didnt work earlier, as I was checking the number 41... funny how there are 2 wiper fuses

Thanks a lot for that! I was beginning to rip my hair out!

no probs, you will find that the control fuse will blow quite easily if there is any obstruction to the wipers (eg ice). I have an older car with 5 amp fuse, so always keep a couple of spares in the car.
