I am hoping some of you petrol heads may be able to recommend a strong glue for plastics. It's for my lawnmower! There are two fixed plastic pins which hold the handle to the body. The pins will need to have glue applied and then be knocked into position and held until glue sets as they are in 'blind' holes. i.e. I cannot glue them in position. For some reason they have started working loose each time I mow. Hope someone can help..Thanks.

Araldite , or some other sort of epoxy resin

Seconded! Go for the quick hardening version - should be solid within a couple of minutes. Sorted

Thanks guys for your quick replies. Off to buy some tomorrow!.

Either that or if the handle is strong enough put a suitable rivet through it in place of the pins.

Hello again cheeze' yes I thought of something like that but the pins have a reach of about 3-1/2" and as they are into a blind hole it may be beyond my limited skills. I'll try the glue first and see how it goes. Thanks for your reply.

Hmmm... If the pins are working loose, either there must be some sort of movement required of them or perhaps they have become worn from jumping up and down from vibration, since plastic pins typically aren't glued though might be ridged or splayed at the end.

I'd bet a £1 to a penny that you won't be the only one - I'd probs see if new pins were available before sticking glue in. Although, if you stick a hard glue in (e.g. Araldite), it could be drilled out, assuming the pins aren't threaded.

Like I said, I'd ask a supplier if it's a common problem and see if there's a common fix.

Mo

PS I suspect the handle might be plastic coated metal. I wouldn't hang my hat on Araldite glueing plastic to metal, besides which, if the handle is hollow, there'd be a lack of surface to stick to.

If it's possible to drill though, then a nut and bolt might do it, but I'd still go for seeing if it's a common fault if it's a plastic lug that's gone.

Mo

I think Mo's right, and if you have to glue them, use real Araldite, not "rapid".
