radiator fans

Featured Replies

Just a quick one, the two fans on my octy have stopped working. They used to work when i turned the air con switch on but now nothing happens. My air con was knacked when i bought the car, and i have never really bothered with it,but it was nice to be able to add extra cooling to the rad if stuck in traffic.Any ideas please:thumbup:--ive already checked the fusable link on the battery and its ok.

i've got exactly the same problem be very interested in any answers to this as well

temperature sender in the radiator dead?

This sounds similar to a problem LCRs suffer from, something to do with the slow speed resitor in the fans burning out, trouble is its a bloody expensive fix because the whole fan units have to replaced as theyre sealed units, have a look on seatcupra.net and look for stuff like LCR fans/overheating etc for more detailed discussion on it.

Check if there is any gas left in the air-con system. If there is no gas (or very low gas), then the pressure switch will not activate the system and associated components (i.e the fans).

I had this problem on my Octy a couple of weeks after a re-gas where the system failed to work and thought that the relay box had failed. Having checked all was okay, went back to the air-con guy who did a pressure test and ALL the air-con gas had escaped!!!

Couldn't find a leak but was re-gassed (free of charge) and has been lovely and cool since!!
