Octavia1.6 glxi to be converted into a 1.8 20v?

Featured Replies

hi folks,

I have a 2000 skoda Octavia 1.6 glxi,is it possible to replace it with a 1.8 20v.Where I am from in Barbados the 1.8 models are very rare and are costly to bring here.I am a lover of a little more power under the hood so this 1.6 is a little slow for me.

I guess there are other options but I like Skoda ,so if any one could let me know if it is expensive and is it a difficult task.

I'm sure this can be done, but would expect to need 1.8T with gearbox, driveshafts, front suspension uprights, springs, dampers and brakes, engine and gearbox mounts, gear linkage, engine ECU, exhaust system, radiator, and engine wiring loom.

Once you've got that lot, it should mostly be a spanner job. The main reason for needing so much suspension is that that'll be easier than making hybrid driveshafts to suit the different gearbox and and hubs, and the 1.8T is heavier than the 1.6, so will need heavier front springs and dampers. Then, having changed the uprights, it'll be easier to have the DS3 calipers than make new carriers to fit the FS111s.

BravoMan, hope you get through with your endeavour.

Do you want a 1.8 20v or a 20vt?

If you want the na version dont bother, its crap, wont go a great deal faster than your 1.6, use more fuel and probably prove more unreliable.
