1.6 octy Seems like lack of power

Featured Replies

Its been like this ever since i have had the car (4 months) But If anyone else has a 1.6 octy or experiance of one than can you tell me if what i am experiancing is normal on my MK1 Octy with 68,000 miles.

It seems that when i pull out of a junction and put foot to the floor to try and move there is no whoomph just seems like you are edging it it move faster (like your saying come on, come on move quicker) Its like a diesle without the turbo just nothing there.

Its ok when its up to speed its just that it seems to lack power on accelerating.

A lot of people say its because its a heavy car (Is this known for the 1.6 engine in the octavia)

I have no stalling or idling probs and there is no juddering or missfiring when driving.

anyone?

well, i drive an octy estate, automatic. for the 1.6 engine, it works well. it can be a bit sluggish at times, especially if it goes below the powerband. but all in all, it is quite satisfactory for a 1.6. the 105BHP is nice. the accel leaves little to be desired (considering it's a 1.6), but i am satisfied, at least when comparing to other cars of a similar weight/engine combination

the gradual acceleration is normal, at least in my opinion

chuck a tank of vpower 99 ron in and give it a good boot to clean the engine out and see how it performs after that.

I feel mine is like that sometimes pulling away - though I haven't owned mine long enough to say really - few months. Does anyone know where the power really kicks in on the 1.6? It seems very gradual, when over taking I usually ensure I am about 3500rpm, and when towing ensure the revs are always over 2250 so that I don't labour the engine too much.

Just going to "throw" out there that your air flow sensor may be a tad dirty, have experience with bmw's (esp e46 n42 powered cars) that if the sensor is dirty (usually the case) or faulty that can cause a slugishness and not bring on the engine light or cause any rough running.
