Cruise control fitting help

Featured Replies

Ordered a C/C kit from Skoda, got the switch fitted, the plug for the switch is in and the plug is in the fuse box. All im confused about is the white wire.

The instructions say it needs to go in connector T11a, pin 10. Now, i cant find anywhere for it to go.

Iv had a look at VRStu's site which says to connect it to the engine ECU, but the wire already has a terminal crimped onto it which makes me think i dont have to run the wire all the way there

Any ideas where that connector is?

Anyone?

I don't know what you've plugged into the fuse box - Nothing should be.

In the fitting instructions, it says 1 plug goes to the switch, the 2nd one to XS3 (I think) on what i think was the fuse box. The blue/red wire to the brake pedal switch and the white wire...

Would pictures help?

XS3 is on the central electrics control unit.

The white wire ends up at the engine ECU. There are two possible connection locations at the bulkhead point depending on year we have found.

Or there are alternatives.

No it's ok, I think I can manage it without the pictures. :D

XS3 is on the Central Electronics/Boardnetz Controller.

The plug that you should use to connect to the brake pedal carries the power supply.

The white wire is much more difficult and hence the recomendation to use another wire directly to the ECU as per my guide.

Not exaclty sure how many i've done now but I know ive got around 30 indicator stalks spare..lol.

A rogues gallery

I tend to give them back to people now, saves having them laying around :D

Due to a slight administrative error I do have a box of around 25 MKII Cruise Stalks here

Ah, that makes sense now. Just assumed it was the fuse box...

Just wasnt sure about the white wire as it came with a terminal already crimped on.

Ah well, just splice it into the ECU wiring

Cheers guys :)

That white wire - difficult but not impossible :o) That's the one where you go to the bulkhead instead of the ECU ? I went the bulk head way. Didnt want to jeaporise the warranty. If you recall, I nearly had u do it for me vrstu - but Im a persistant little ******* !

But its a bitch (until u done it once lol)

PS does the kit from Skoda still suck or have they modded it ? I think the VW one is sweet, matches the opposite stalk and everything :o)

The Skoda one matches the other stalk as its the same as the one fitted by the factory.

Didnt want to jeaporise the warranty

For what you are worried about you still have anyway unless you are authorised to fit Skoda accessories anyhow.

Wheres that then?

Ok well couldnt have done a bad job.....still going regardless, cruise working nicely....and its pretty near to out of warranty anyway....plus if I needed to reverse it, it would be possible without a trace unlike the direct into ECU wiring method which would leave a nasty reminder....

I have to say you seem to be making a much bigger job of it than it truly is.

Um.....so .....like......bovvered :o)

From what I saw the BEA cruise is of a different design to the VW one. The VW one is ergonomically designed to flow and feel the same as opposite stalk. Probably because they are still both VW parts:o)

Can't be arsed to trawl for the BEA pics but it definitely looked different and the forums on here confirmed the way it worked was not as advantageous (not really the right word um intuitive is better) as the VW one.

Mikey as you can see from the thread reply "There are two possible connection locations at the bulkhead point depending on year we have found."

Recommend you leave it to the experts. I only took it on after a LOT of investigative work and by the way you have to disarm/dismantle the airbag - that's an explosive weapon in the wrong hands :o)

I could tell you but then Skoda would have to kill you !

There we go p15

Ok I admit I must be off on one.

When I first looked it seemed like it had an ugly looking +- system compared to the VW stalk (which is a direct push up and down, instead of the Skoda ones push/pull that seems to be indicated :o)

Maybe its at a funny angle too - just doesn't look as "rounded" off like the opposite stalk - so you're saying this photo is deceptive, it is actually rounded just like the trip computer right stalk ?

I guess its pretty much the same stalk...?

I just saw that photo and read about the difference in the forums a long while back and assumed it was some kind of "alien" stalk from Skoda hence preference for the Vdub one :o)

Same as the MK4 Golf stalk, there are a few differences over the years but all superceed to that one anyhow IIRC.

Screw it, ill splice into the ECU harness. Seems much easier

I like the look of the VW stalk too, seems much nicer than the Skoda one...

  • 1 year later...

hi im doing the retrofit cruise on my fabia vrs but having alot of difficuilty finding the t11a terminal on the bulkhead any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Andy.

I must admit I am happy to give things a go, but this I dont think I could do. Would like to have cruise but I just know I would balls something up, lol
