Sorry to ask again but...

Carbase Group - Approved Car Sales Dealerships - 01934 62 60 60 (Search for Skoda as a make and its the top one)

Just wanted to know what you think of it. is it good/bad etc. Originally I didn't want black but the price seems OK and it's averaged 11k a year which isn't too bad plus I do like black it just means I'll have to clean it more often. :P

Sorry to ask about another car again but wanted the opinion of people who know more about cars and particularly vRS's than I do before I set my heart on it.

Going to ring them tomorrow to make sure its there first. It's a 2hr drive from my house so want to know it's there!. I've been caught out before with a car advertised on the Internet where it's on the site but in actual fact it had been sold weeks ago. Thankfully that was more local.

First reaction is the price is quite high.

We bought an 05 plate a few months ago with just over half the miles for less than that

Do they offer warranty - if you bought from a Skoda dealer you would get 12 months IIRC

How does the price compare with what's on the Skoda UK site?

Edit - more thoughts....

Can't see any floor mats in the pic

Any website with a .biz ending sounds tacky to me - although I have no logical grounds whatsoever for saying that! There again I don't like car supermarkets either!

No mention of service history or number of owners

Black magic paint work can swirl mark easily but needs to be viewed in person to see what its like

Where from? It's getting really hard to find them and usually when I do it's either rubbish far too overpriced or has the BLT engine which I don't want.

To be fair that was a private sale so you would expect it to be a bit cheaper.

We looked at dealers (via the used car search on Skoda UK), Autotrader, Ebay and on here of course.

My impression is there are bargains to be had now - maybe you need to make some silly offers.

I'd still say it's overpriced, even if it is from a dealer. I picked up an '05 plate that has done 25k miles, with Xenons, Cruise and Sunroof for £7,000 a few weeks ago. You do have to make offers - nearly every vRS I have seen for sale has been overpriced. Good luck!

Yeah a private sale isn't really an option for me. Car has to be part ex'd if you know what I mean. I know Parkers overprices things but it thinks it should be worth £6600 which is better but as it doesn't have the mats and I'm sure I could point out other things on the day I think it should be nearer 6k

So what sort of things should I be saying? things like "You can knock off 2k for a start!". And where do I stand because I'm part exing?

Try and sell your current car privately for a start, That will strengthen your position in negotiations.

That's a supermarket, and I've never had one budge on price yet. And the trade-ins are usually hideously low too.

Plus, that car is very expensive for a 4-year old one with no extras except metallic paint. Unfortunately Wales seems to be a black-spot for 3-5 year old Fabias at the moment, but around here (East Anglia) it's quite good. The skoda website shows that ALS Locks (a proper Skoda dealer) have a 2005 with 78K on the clock (so you know it's run in!), wth Sat-nav (£1800 option that includes the maxidot and 6-disc changer) for just under £6000, and Chequered Flag (again, an old-school Skoda dealer) have a 2004 in black with 47K on the clock for £7700, but you'll probably be able to negotiate 10% off either of those in real terms (the cost to change your car from one to the other). Locks are also dealers for the Steinbauer tuning box (170bhp), so if that's your idea of a good time, they could probably do you a good deal on one of those. I would definitely recommend getting the car from a Skoda dealer or a Briskodian as the dealers will do some kind of Skoda UK warranty which you'll be able to take up at your local dealer, and a car bought from one of us will more than likely have been very well looked after.

I can undertand why you want a non-BLT engine, but the very long 6th gear on those cars actually makes the car slightly less driveable over 60mph in my opinion. I bought one of the early build '06 BLTs in August 2006 and I've just turned 65,000 miles on it, and it has had a wheel bearing done under warranty and the fuel filler cap tie-wrapped to make sure it closes. Both are very common faults. Other than that it has been completely reliable.

I saw your other thread where two dealers claimed not to know about the stutter on BLT engined cars. Bottom line, they're lying. It was a massive issue for VAG (not just on Skodas) and there are varying degrees of fix available. Mine stutters at roughly 1850 rpm which is 30mph in 3rd gear, 40mph in 4th gear, 50mph in 5th gear etc. so I basically run the car a little higher than I would normally at the various speed limits by running them in a lower gear, which puts you right in the torque-peak, so when you do clear the speed limits it pulls like the proverbial train. I have seen this described as driving around the stutter.

Right it's looking more and more likely that I'm going to have to venture "over the bridge" to get a vRS. Here's one in Bath which looks OK and IMO isn't asking too silly money for it and perhaps have some room for negotiation.

Skoda Fabia 1.9 TD Vrs 5-Dr Hatchback

Go private dude, last time i checked the vRS prices were free-falling

I would like to go private but with some of the niggles with my current car it will be harder to sell private. MOT is due next week. It should pass so I will be in a stronger selling position with it. I may just have to bite the bullet and lose a little on it and save a lot on a private vRS. Now I've just got to find someone who is willing to put up with the problems. Would make a good 1st car or cheap 2nd runabout for someone though.

Could I post what's wrong with the car on here and see what you all think and maybe advise me on how much you think it's worth?

Sell it private

A dealership will offer you below its private resale value.

Which means you will lose out twice, on the price of your car and the premium of a forecourt car.

:D

Could I tell you what's wrong with the car and could any of you give me a rough price as to what it should be worth?

OK here goes:

VW Polo 1.4 16v S 3dr in Jazz Blue

65000 miles

Recently serviced - Full Service history. Car has always had genuine parts I knew the previous owner.

Timing belt was done last year.

Always looked after as I always do with anything I own. NEVER driven hard off cold. Always allowed to warm up properly.

Car is completely standard and IMO the interior and bodywork is 99% perfect apart from the odd stone chip.

Now the bad points:

The windows are really stiff going up and sometimes due to the safety feature won't go up unless the seals are lubricated. This works for a while but then goes back to being stiff again. Maybe new seals to fix this?

Slightly lumpy idle but this does not affect the performance or fuel consumption of the car. Now and again the engine management light will come on but then goes out after a few days.

But that's it really. It will be a really good car for someone, perhaps as a 1st car or a cheap runabout. After all this is an 8 year old car so a few niggles are to be expected and to be honest has been reliable for the year I've had it.
