Hi, has anyone had problems with the computer readings on their vrs?

Mine consistently tells me that I am averaging 69 mpg whereas the deisel I buy works out at 56 mpg. Everytime I fill the tank the computer tells me that I have between 650 and 700 miles left in the tank, but even when I run it to 0 left I have only done 500 miles.

The dealer who supplied my car originally said that there was no adjustment on the computer, and then next time told me that it had been set for the wrong engine, but it has made no difference.

I don't expect it to be 100% accurate, but an error of more than 20% means that it is useless.

Yeah... mine always did that... would show 55-60mpg on the computer, but would actually do only 40 :(

Its making you feel better! Buy telling you how much your saving what a lovely computer!

does it really matter if its not right? my cupra before the VRS would do about 20mpg if i was lucky! Im forever saving money now!

Both my Passats are spot on but my Octy VRS I had was a little over what I got but not by much, certainly not 20% more like 5-10% at most.

My Fabia vRS went into the dealer's today for it's first service. Among other things to be done was to recalibrate the trip computer since mine normally reads between 16-20% too high....

to little john, I wasn't aware they could re-calibate the computer. My new fabia is on order but if it suffers the same problem then I would like to know if it definately can be done.

Apparently they can't! If you do a search you will find that it was possible on earlier models (you can even do it yourself with VAG-COM) there is some sort of fudge factor that you can switch on. However, this has disappeared from later versions of the vRS. I was hoping the dealer would have the technology to do it, given that it seems to be a common complaint but they can't.

what is this vagcom? I've heard it mentioned a few times but have no idea what it does. I'd guess at an error code reader but I thought they cost thousands!

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know it's a cable to connect a laptop computer to the diagnostics port on the car and the software required to read the diagnostics and update settings.

Well it's back to the dealer today!

They have been in touch with Skoda and want the car for 45 minutes to do some changes - I will let you know the results.

What year is your car? Mine is an 06 and the MPG on the last reading was 13MPG out (58mpg on computer 45 when calculated).

I'm trying a tank of BP Ultimate this time and computer is reporting 64mpg. Will see what the real MPG is and then maybe do some adjustments with VAGCom.

Mine under estimates.

eg. Says im doing 50mpg. When im actually doing nearer 60mpg.

This is all worked out on paper with a calculator.
